I look ridiculous. . .

I look and feel ridiculous. Because of my sprained ankle I'm wearing a big black boot to immobilize my foot and prevent re-injury. But the boot is high, it has sort of a heel, which means my normal shoes don't work. I had to buy an even-up, which is something I strap to the bottom of my non-injured shoe to make it well, even, with my boot. The only shoe that works? My polka dot rainboots. I'm walking around a professional business conference with a black contraption and a polka dot rainboot. Picture below.

Not only that but I feel completely ridiculous because a purse and a laptop bag are too heavy and lopsided for me. Instead I'm strapping on my big blue LL Bean backpack. And did I mention I'm wearing a purple coat? Everyone else's coats are blue, black, brown or gray. Mine? It's purple. I feel so conspicuous.

Today I saw two sleek women walking into the building after having just exited a cab. They had smooth shiny hair and wore high heels and tights. They look so polished and put together. I look disheveled and ridiculous. As I watched them strut around it occurred to me I will never look like them without professional help. Because I really have no idea how to pull it off. Most of the time I'm ok with how I look but today, considering I'm the odd woman out, everything seems exacerbated. Sticking out like a sore thumb? Yes.
