Been entirely too busy lately...first with school and midterms before break, then just with seeing people and trying to relax and have some fun over break. Obviously, that's left me very little time for updating, but I figured I'd squeeze this in while my professor is talking about William Wordsworth's The Prelude.
I am still morning the
death of Captain America. I haven't managed to find the actual issue it took place in, probably because there are jackass speculators out there buying ten copies at once like its the 1990s all over again, so therefore I can't say whether it was executed well or not. I can say that, in my opinion, its a bad move. Captain America has never before been as interesting as he has been during Ed Brubaker's run with the character over the past couple of years. So why get rid of him now? It also seems like they've thrown out half of the storytelling potential left over from Civil War. One of the things I was most interesting in seeing after reading the conclusion of CW was what was going to happen to Cap. How was going to deal with the actions he'd taken? Would he jump sides and support Iron Man? Would he try civil disobedience? Would he simply sulk in his cell for a while and reevaluate his place in the Marvel Universe? None of that matters now because they decided to pull what basically amounts to a publicity stunt and a sales spike. This story may end up being good for all I know, but its simply horrible timing.
I took a look at the New York Times homepage today. What wonderful things there are to see:
An
article about the collateral damage brought on by the War on Mexicans, an
article letting us know how much the government really supports our troops, and an
article that serves as great evidence for the idea that fighting hate with hate only reaps more hate.
Its a lovely day.
