Twitter's biggest flaw? 140 character limit. I mean seriously what can one say in 140 letters? Half the shit I read on twitter is so pointless I regret even taking out my phone. Or maybe if someone invented a way to filter out the "I am going to get brunch" posts? Which brings us to Twitter's next demerit: the twitter shitters. General rule of thumb, if you are doing a thing that everyone does, perhaps every day: Don't tweet it. Maybe at some point something interesting will happen, so just hold out for that.
But then on LJ side of things, is it really better that I have more room to express myself? Or is the open format a bad thing in the end? There's a certain poetry to writing good tweets, something that benefits from the short format. Seems to me that giving people more space to type just gives them more space to make asses of themselves (myself included.) and hey, at least people read twitter amirite? Oh and there's at least some sense of courtesy on there, which is a welcome change from the backhanded passive-aggres-fest that is LJ.
Lessons to be learned for all micro and macro bloggers: when in doubt, no one cares.
