Started my job at Health Canada on Wednesday and I think I will learn a lot. The position I am filling is a CR-04 (CR = clerical and regulatory group).
What am I doing? A lot of work with files. After a few days of work it makes sense why they chose me to fill the position. They have also been picking my brain about Clinical Trial regulations which is somewhat related to the work at the Office of Controlled Substances.
So say you are qualified to run a scientific trial of sorts, in vitro or in vivo, it doesn't matter, and you NEED some ketamine or buprenorphine or sodium pentobarbital or another something-something in the benzodiazepine/narcotics category...you contact us. We get all up in your grill about what you are going to do with it and ask you not to sell it to your friends. If seem on the level your request gets approved and you get some of that contraband.* Where do I fit in all of this? At a few points along the way I see your file and at the end generate the letter permitting you to have the stuff. Glorified admin work. Glorified admin work where I get to learn about different regulation! :D
Here is hoping that the contract gets extended in 4 months!
*Really there is a lot more to it than this.
