One person too many calling themselves an artist...

If I were to tell you that Morty wasn't entirely Chihuahua, what other breed of dog would you think was present in Morty's DNA? Miniature Pincher? Nope. What about Bichon Frise? Well, apparently 11-19% of Morty's DNA is Bichon Frise. What does that mean? That his great-grandparent was at least part Bichon Frise! He does have over 80% Chihuahua DNA, meaning at least one of his parents was purebred. So Morty is a Chi-chon (which is what a mixed Chi and Bichon Frise is called).

Am I surprised he isn't purely Chi? Nope. I have said from the start that he is cuter than the average Chi. Also, if you read THIS description of a Bichon Frise's temperament it describes Morty perfectly right down to the Bichon Blitz. I didn't pay for a purebred dog. I paid for Morty and he is awesome. (Speaking of awesome, check out my dog's latest trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ_Vzzpsrqw&feature=youtube_gdata OooOooOoooo)

Yes, I tested my dog's DNA. Being a dog owner and a graduate from a biochem program how could I not test his DNA?

How did we do the test? In celebration of getting the Environment Canada contract I got Morty's DNA tested by DNA My Dog. I had been wanting to do it for a while (because, I love science-y things) but couldn't justify the 75$ until I got that contract. It was everything I wanted and more. :D

I would also like to say that the people at DNA My Dog are super nice people! Also Morty will be used in the next round of "Guess my Breed" on their page (because it is so ridiculous). :)

science, morty
