I just woke up from a four hour snot dripping nap. I went to work this morning (almost wrote that the smorning because that sounded right) and after messing up most of my words (said bee instead of beer), Phil not recognizing my voice on my phone, and failing to look up one LD50 or flashpoint for 2,4-dichloroanaline, I went home and slept. I hate going home from work sick. I am already there so I may as well tough it out and make da muneh. I really needed the sleep apparently. I am also in big doo doo if I am found moving things around or cleaning the apartment. :S
MOVING SUCKS
I forgot to mention why the move was such a mess. First off I would like to say two things:
1. NEVER EVER USE UHAUL.
2. Ryan J. saved our a**es and is a very stand up guy.
We called UHAUL the day before we were moving to confirm the reservation we had made on the 12th of April, ensuring we had a truck. We were informed that we did not have a truck but that yes they had our reservation. Apparently they were to call us if we had a truck. We were never told this. We called the regional branch to complain and after taking forever to get through we were told to call the Phoenix office. We called the Phoenix office and they informed us that were suppose to call the regional office. Phil informed them that we had and after asking her what else we could do and her not being able to provide an alternative, hung up on Phil. We were very upset.
Enter Ryan J. who along with my father, Chandy, Phil's two brothers, Phil's mom and her bf was helping us move. I had informed him that we had lost the truck and couldn't seem to find a truck (it was May moving day on a Sat = students moving home). The next morning, Ryan called and told us he had found a truck. Pensky had just received licensing for 11 units that day and they would be ready for 1 pm. O_O I couldn't believe we had found a truck.
It would be nice if our troubles had ended there. We also called to confirm our elevator time. They had booked us for the wrong building. We were allowed to move in through the lobby but not allowed to pile things there. So it took us at least twice as long to move the stuff to the 10th floor.
We had also been assured MANY times that we could get the keys for 9am. Apparently it wasn't 9 am but noon. However, feeling sorry for us, the lady came in at 11.
Bleh. We finished everything at around 10 pm. Long day.
BOOKS
Yesterday I finished Flashforward by Robert J. Sawyer, a Canadian Sci-Fi writer who's book had been turned into a pretty good TV series. Phil had a few books by Sawyer and while Flashforward was the first Sawyer book I have read, the premise of EVERY one of his books fascinates me. Flashforward was a good read. His writing can be a little sterile at times and he tends to over compensate for not being American by mentioning anything not American. Yes, there is a lot of Canada this, Canada, that but he also focused on anything Greek, Swiss, French, German, etc. Essentially, anything not American. I will probably read another book or two of his by the end of the summer.
Today I started
Boomsday by Christopher Buckley, who also wrote Thank You for Smoking. I already knew I was a fan of his writing but am feeling very guilty that I find myself agreeing with the main character who is angry that her generation is paying for the Baby Boomer's retirement.
COMIC BOOKS
Brightest Day is well underway but I find myself way more interested in "The Return of Bruce Wayne" and what is going on with Green Arrow and Red Arrow/Arsenal. The Rise and Fall event which starts where A Cry for Justice left off and is VERY good. It's written by
J. T. Krul who's impressing me quite a bit. He brings the sort of humanity to the character I haven't seen since
Identity Crisis (Brian Meltzer).
MOVIES
THOR MOVIE PHOTOS! (Movie picture was leaked) F*CK IRON MAN!
Thor kicks Iron Man's ass! (Oh...and Thor makes Tony Stark walk home after this exchange).
And finally,
TELEVISION
Glee, is still awesome. Did you see the Madonna episode? It was awesome. So very awesome.
