*Opens a Steam Whistle and flip to "Anne of Green Gables - the Sequel" to settle in for a large entry*
First: my back is a lot better. I am still a little stiff but I am definitely mobile. Who the heck knows what happened but I am sure glad it isn't incapacitating me any longer.
CHRISTMAS:
Christmas was awesome this year. Unlike last year, no fights with the boyfriend because he kicked in his mother's window. Phil and I opened up our gifts on the 24th, giving us more time to enjoy them before the family descended upon us. We spent some time with Phil's father who showed up in Ottawa unannounced, saw my dad and Stepmother, and ate dinner with my mom.
A few photos of the loot. A little un-Christmas-like but some of this stuff is nerd fun.
Me opening the PS3 from my Father.
The PS3 along with the remote, my Star Trek Blu-Ray which inspired the PS3 (check out the sweet case), District 9 (my boss from Health Canada), The Most Serene Republic - ...And the Expanding Universe (Dad), Wintersleep - Wintersleep (Dad), The Weakerthans - Recontstruction Site (Dad), Cognac Dijon Mustard (Dad), Venture Bros. Season 1-3 (Phil) and Batman the Animaed Series (Phil).

Poor Phil. He desperately searched for the discontinued Batman: The Complete Animated Series box set and finally found one on Amazon being sold at a reasonable price by someone located in California who had a great review. When he got the package he noticed the package was covered in Hong Kong postage. If you look closely at the box it says "Th Complete Animaed Series"...:S I had already guessed the other present (by accident) so he went out and got the Venture Bros. on DVD. Poor boy. I know he tried so hard and did a great job picking out things right up my alley. :D
And as a thank you to him I am sharing this photo with you. :)
I did finish one project for Phil - I decorated this Munny Limited Edition Ornament. It was a learning experience and quite the contining experiment.
Got around to framing the post cards we bought at the CBS Art Gala. I think they look pretty freaking sweet.
At Mrs. Tiggy Winkles there are some pretty freaking sweet umm...things? I eyed this salt and pepper shaker for weeks before picking it up. The shakers are held together by magnets. How freaking cute is that?
Onto the vinyls... Lately I have been getting more and more into MINDstyle vinyls. Here is a selection of the MINDstyle vinyls Phil and I have been collecting (some of them were Christmas presents).
Serv-O-Matics designed by Brandt Peters. Since Phil bought me one this summer I have been a little obsessed with them. There is even a chase by Kathie Olivas.
Two vinyls from Kathie Olivas Series 2:
The only Mechtorian I could get my hands on. Designed by Doktor A (a new favorite of mine).
Onto KidRobot and others!
Potamus by Kozik. These have a little sentimental value to Phil and I. He use to come by my desk when I worked in the Office of Clinical Trials at Health Canada and play with the orange Potamus, sometimes walking away with it. So one day I left the little orange dude on his desk with a little note saying he liked it there better and asking if he could stay.
The Reservoir Dog Qees:
The chase from this series is the black one which is missing a blood splatter.
Last year's and this year's 3" Christmas Dunny:
I opened ONE Ye Olde English Dunny and got the Doktor A one I wanted. Talk about lucky.
Finally, shots of my present to Phil, the Deph Fatcap. Phil had been eying this for a few months but didn't want to spend the coin. So I picked up the Limited Edition vinyl. I love his little spray can crate. :D
I think I need a second display case.
I also have a more updated photo of my Sarge Monger, Pure Trance, Cucos Kids and a few others but those will have to wait.
I was pretty proud of the gifts I got for the boy and had a hard time waiting for him to open them. A rundown of my s/o gift giving:
-Kozik Rippers
-Key shaped bottle opener.
-Cell phone charging holder (he sort of loved this - he hates cords and this minimizes the cords)
-Tintin grocery bag
-Tintin Rocket from "Objectif Lune" and "On a marche sur la lune"
- Decorated Christmas Munny Ornament
-2 Serv-O-Matics
-Family Guy Trivial Pursuit Game
-Deph Fatcap Vinyl
Sadly, I ran out of time to finish the other present I was going to make. Phil preferred that I spend time with him instead of rushing to finish so it is going to wait until Reading Week. :)
PS3:
That machine makes me very happy. Wireless and IMHO a better GUI than the XBox. I love Blu-ray. I love that I can play DVDs on it. I love that you can play video from a USB stick. I love that I can play the demo's on the Blu-Ray. Definitely worth taking back the netbook (which kept breaking on me) and getting the PS3. *love*
DOCTOR WHO:
It is downloaded along with the Confidential but I promised to wait for Phil so we can nerd-gasm together. I am seriously shaking with anticipation.
MOVIES:
Avatar is awesome and lived up to every expectation I had for it. Yes, it can be compared to countless other stories ("Everything is Shakespeare") but I am a believer in "taking two good ideas and making them better." The animation is the best I have ever seen, the world was vibrant (even if something off the cover of a 70's prog-rock vinyl), and the story absorbed me.
I just saw Cameron say on camera "Hollywood needs to work harder to get people back into the movie theaters" and I couldn't agree more. I know I am not alone but I plan on seeing this at least 3 times on the Imax screen.
It has been a great year for Sci-Fi: Star Trek, District 9, Avatar, and Watchmen. Not bad. I would also like to acknowledge Up! as being another favorite of mine.
I am sort of annoyed with Disney making a big deal out of the "first African American Princess" in the "Princess and the Frog"...what about Pocahontas, Mulan or Jasmine? Was it not worth making a big deal out of an Indigenous Person, an Asian or a Persian Princess? Not to mention that the voice actress who played the princess compared this to Obama's election...really?
BOOKS:
I am actually not a picky reader but I have not been having good luck with books recently. Because my mom lent it to me, I read Marley and Me and was bored by it. Sorry John Grogan but your normal suburban life isn't worthy of a publishing deal. And your "mischievious dog"? Just like every other dog I have met including the only one I have had the pleasure of living with. I couldn't even imagine suffering through the movie. Thank heavens "Thank You for Smoking" was wicked or I would give up on reading.
