Found this book while shelving - The Fat Studies Reader - OMG.. I’ve barely read anything & so far it’s so great. I didn’t even really know there was a thing such as Fat Studies. It looks like it would fall under the Women’s Studies heading. Although aren’t there more overweight men than women?? Did you know there is something known as “Hogging”?!!? I was HORRIFIED & completely disgusted!. It makes me feel gross that there are ppl like this. It’s a good chapter/study/article though - it talks about hegemonic masculinity so that I understand it a lot better now. Are there any other forms of socially sanctioned discrimination besides weightism or anti-fat bias ? (I didn’t know the “proper” term - I was just going to call it fat discrimination).

The only thing I could find that’s related to this on Wikipedia is Fat Acceptance Movement (I will be checking out the books & links later). On the topic, I found this really cool site because of a poster put up besides the Starbucks in the library (I loved the poster) - it is advertising the site www.adipositivity.com - (DON’T OPEN AT WORK!)

Also still reading Full Exposure: Opening Up to Your Sexual Creativity and Erotic Expression - it sounds like it’s a Cosmo-style self help book, but it’s not really - not the sort where you have exercises & questionaires - more like opening yourself up to knew ways of looking at things. I was initially turned off by the title because I thought it was the former. But also really good. I heart new thoughts & ideas.

I devoured Amy Bloom’s short story book Come to Me: Stories. Soooo good. The only other one we have in the library is suppose to be A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You, but I can’t seem to find it on the shelf. I think I might have to get it at McNally’s on Saturday if I can’t find it again today. It also looks REALLY good. I don’t think of myself as a short story person but these are beautiful & different but real (& maybe a little disturbing for that reason?).

I am starting to pull stuff out & prep for my “real” kilt. Got a good chunk done on my cross stitch last night while watching Criminal Minds & Drop Dead Diva. While its good - I do find her (& her boyfriend) a little annoying at times. But I love Margaret Cho! I’m also trying to memorize the celtic song “The Parting Glass” but switch the genders out ( & a few rhymes) like I did for “I’m a Rover”.

Also been looking into short men sites. *MY* insecurity. This one was uber cool http://fuckyeahshortguys.tumblr.com/ . I have always looooved Seth Green & I didn’t care he was short. My new hero is Sophie Dahl - former plus model, now writer (her grand father was one of my favorite writers… ROALD DAHL!!)  now happily married to jazz musician Jamie Cullum. It really does look a little strange - but holy crap! good for them!

Seriously Roadl Dahl!! Too cool. :-) I must check out some of his “adult” books :-)
