-White Tiger, Aravind Adiga -Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen -Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides
Those are my three faves from the last year or so, though I have to admit that without too many English bookstores, I haven't gotten to read as much as I would like!
Ah yes, the Life of Pi. I think the only other one I've heard of is Middlesex, but if I can find them at a bookstore here (or in Edmonton) then I shall read them!
Seems like a fairly good and reasonable list to me. :)
Still haven't gotten around to reading the Wheel of Time I presume? ;) That's okay, though beyond that I don't have too much in terms of recommendations. Maybe "Mystborn" though I've yet to read it myself but I've heard good things about it.
Wheel of Time gets to die a slow and painful death at the back of my bookshelf. And since I already own a copy of it, it is not eligible for this contest, at least not until I return home in the fall*! MWAH.
I want books YOU recommend, not what some stuffy critics at the Star recommend. Plus, any list that starts with the Da Vinci Code is lame. LAME.
And I've never read Twilight, so if that's what your recommendation really is, I would :P But come now, PICK SOME REAL BOOKS FOR ME.
* and even then I may never actually get around to reading it
Have you read Jane Eyre? The beginning is a little slow but Jane is a fantastic character with some spot-on things to say about being a woman and the life she wants to lead.
You know, I think I know enough about Jane Eyre to fake a report on it, but I don't think I've actually read it (there's a lot of books I know like that)... So it goes on the list! Thanks Airemay!
Don't know if you've read Sabriel by Garth Nix (it's the first in a trilogy), but that was one of those fantasy-esque books that came highly recommended by several friends whose opinions on books I trust, and I was not disappointed. It's not long, but a very engaging read.
Also, definitely get around to reading Lord of the Flies. Not everyone is into it, but it's one of my all-time favorites.
Lord of the Flies is one of the ones I've read. It's definitely interesting... Not sure I would call it a favourite, but it's definitely creepy and well-done.
