Langston Hughes' A Dream Deferred

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Forever jokes are already long cliché'd. They have already been said, every mocking word. But really, this news comes as a shock. It shouldn't. Fool me once, shame on them. Fool me for twelve years, revoke my right to cognitive thought. They showed playable demos! Alpha, but still! It's just not fair. This game has been the ultimate in blue-balling the video game industry. I have to wonder how much closer to climactic release it can tease us before fizzling out again. I suppose we'll probably find out. It's like the Phoenix, rising from it's ashes again to get sucked into another jet engine.

Perhaps DNF will go down in history as, like Daikatana, a spectacular incident of the video-game industry trolling itself.

I concur wholeheartedly, though I doubt I would have been able to put it so well.

Good old Langston Hughes. He was bloody brilliant. That said, this has gotten me mentally singing "I'm-a goin' on, like a blister in the sun! I'm-a goin' on, big hands you know you're the one!" while I wait for this meeting.

A song that never really grabbed me, but I do see how you get there from here.

Also also, yes Langston Hughes.

This illustrates, once again, why kittens are the answer to everything.

Oh, hey, now I know what I'm getting you for my birthday. eBay doesn't encourage me that much, but I have Sources of gear for the purpose of constraining kittens. It's shiny stuff.

The sad thing is that one of the trailer videos looked/sounded/played really, really good, like the sort of thing I'd have played despite it being an FPS. Then... what the hell, right?

Which one in particular are you thinking of ?

I don't even remember the name of it, except that there was one segment where there's some general or other talking to Duke. Really, I remember it more for thinking, "Dammit, I don't care how dated the graphics are, release this game now instead of some shiny piece of shit never!"

Oh well.
