First ER time....

So, tonight was my first night working in the ER. Pretty cool.

First of all, I have a whole new respect and understanding for people that work in the hospital. That's a lot of work. I did not stop moving for almost 9 hours. Didn't sit down even once. My feet are tired, my back hurts, but I feel good.

Jon and I saw 15 patients tonight. Each of us did part of the patient's care, so we can both take credit. I did 4 or 5 IVs, and was successful on 3. That's not too bad, but I still need practice. I got to help put a dislocated shoulder back in place, do X-rays, move patients to the operating room, and a bunch of other things.

Overall, I think it was a good first shift. I still have a lot to learn but I feel a little more positive about it all now. So that's a total of 20 clinical hours down, 200 more to go. Okay, I'm not going to count anymore at this point, that's a scary deficit in hours.

Tired. Bedtime. Medic shift tomorrow night, so I'll have more to say then.
