(no subject)
Bit of a drama in our neck of the woods this arvo/tonight. Mum called me at work to say that a tree had come down in the next side street, snapping 3 power poles. Dad said he'd been down in the garage doing woodwork, when he heard a crack and thought he'd snapped the piece of pine he was ruling. He went out and said that the power lines right up the street were bouncing. Our power went up and down but we stayed on.
They'd started the cleanup when I got home, and are working possibly right through the night, till it's all fixed. Funny thing is that the tree that came down (it was actually half the tree, the trunk was in a V) was supposed to be taken out today because it was dangerous. One of the electricity workers here tonight said he'd come out Saturday to put the protective sleeves on the power lines. They'll still have to take out the other half of the tree which is leaning the other way towards the house.
This was after they'd cleared most of the tree off the street. It had been totally blocked.
