On Monday, my daughter brought home something extra from the grocery store -- a little Rottie-pit bull mix that she found wandering in the parking lot. She'd tried the shelter, but they were full. Could we keep him just until we found his owners? Please.
She put up posters. No one called. Meanwhile, my three dogs did not want the new guy anywhere near them, so we set up a temporary cage. This worked well, but we had to walk doggie often. And he and the other dogs spent each night calling each other names across the back yard. One night, he was so pitiful that I brought him inside and let him sleep in my room. The next morning, I surveyed the damage: three shoes and two books chewed up, several cats not chewed up, but not at all happy. Last night it rained, so he got to come inside again and sleep in the bathroom.
A couple of days ago, I put an add in the lost and found section of the newspaper. Today, someone called, and about 1/2 an hour later, happy owners were taking their happy puppy back home.
Tonight, my dogs and cats are throwing a "Thank God He's Gone!" party.
