Something sparked my interest in writing last night, but I was too tired so I promised myself that I will post an entry today.
All of last summer, I was working front desk at the Peppermill and intended to keep that job until I either student taught or left Reno. When I found out on the first day of July that the marching band was going to be cut in a year, I did everything possible to march this fall. In order to march this fall, I realized that I had to now be a full time student. Up to the first day of band camp, that was the plan, and I had 12 credits of repeat classes lined up with a schedule that fit well with work and everything else.
On the last day of band camp, I received a call from the education department asking me if I could do a paid internship at Spanish Springs High School. Since this was most likely going to turn into a permenant teaching position, I did everything possible to make sure that I would get it. I had to drop my 12 credits and resign from work to do it, but I was allowed to keep doing band. That next week, I found out that the principal decided to hire somebody else, so I was stuck in a hole. Fortunately, I ended up receiving a regular student teaching position at Reed High School, which I started the day after I found out about it. Since then, I have been leaving here early on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in order to do marching band rehearsal as well. It's 7 weeks in and going very well. I've been subbing on a couple of occasions and I'm so close to actually having my own program. It's pretty exciting.
In the meantime, I have been loosely considering graduate schools to apply for in case I can't get a job in this district (which is probably what will happen). I'm looking into George Mason, North Texas, Northwestern, ASU, and possibly University of Oregon.
That's basically what's happening up to now...
