Dear Reader,
The last couple weeks have been filled with positives and negatives, all tied together by the Olympics. I've had a few dissapointments throughout the weeks, including finding out the true colors of a few of my friends. On the contrary, I have finally found the right job for me, and I actually received a bonus for my extra dilligent work. I also endured a wave of midterms all on the same week, coupled with writing an extremely difficult essay for Core Humanities. Judgement day for that is tomorrow when I get it back....with a grade. All of these events were tied together by the Olympics. Each night I would come home and turn on the TV, watching people of many nations competing together in peace and it showed me that this is how life can be. Remove politics and add solidarity and this is what happens. For two weeks, while I endured a combination of emotions from each side of the spectrum, I ended my days with the Olympics, which would prepare me for a new day of challenges, triumphs, and surprises.
It wasn't until tonight that I figured out what the Olympics have done for me recently. Watching the closing cermonies and seeing people in tears while hugging each other showed me more about what life can be like. Then I looked at the recaps. As I saw Shawn White teary eyed, watched Julia Mancuso win gold, and witnessed an Italian XC skier collapse and cry on the snow as she won gold, it all started to make sense. The olympic sensation is something that cancels out the good with the bad and gives me a spiritual constant that enables me to pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again:
Nothing's impossible I have found,
For when my chin is on the ground,
I pick myself up,
Dust myself off,
Start all over again.
Don't lose your confidence if you slip,
Be grateful for a pleasant trip,
And pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off,
Start all over again.
Will you remember the famous men,
Who had to fall to rise again?
So take a deep breath,
Pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off,
Start all over again.
Have a good night, everyone!
