Back to the Grind

OH UGH! BACK AT WORK ALL TOO SOON!!!!!

Can't stand it.

But, here I am... I'm all nerved up about the big NYE gig with the band on Thursday. I know Pat isn't psyched about going out of town and not being anywhere near our friends on NYE. I'm not thrilled, myself, but I know it will be a really good time if he will relax and let it. I'm even getting us a hotel room so we don't have to make the long haul back to KoP after the show.

I'm nervous about having forgotten everything I know about singing with the band, because I haven't done a gig since right after my birthday... Happily, the last gig I played WAS at Marina's, so I'll be familiar with the space. hehehe. I hope I haven't forgotten how to be a rockstar. I hope I haven't forgotten all the words. I hope we don't add too many new songs tomorrow at practice, because I REALLY want to, but I don't know if I can cram tons more lyrics in 2 days... The backups for all the stuff Tracy has probably learned and memorized already in preparation is going to be tough enough, I'm sure.

Nerves and band aside, things are busy enough already. I want to nest again and figure out where all the new Christmas loot goes in the apartment. Pat ended up with some great stuff for decorating the geek office, and I want to put up some framed art in the bedroom as well (need to buy frames).

I had a great holiday. It was really nice to spend a whole week with Mom and Matt. Bill's a great guy, and was fun when we got to see him, but he stepped aside and let Mom have us all to herself for the better part of the week. We got to watch Mom's old home movies from 1954-1971. It was insane. I looked JUST LIKE HER when I was a baby. Like, I could have been her wearing a blonde wig when I was 2. My brother also bore an uncanny resembelance to my Uncle Ken when they were both babies. My grandmother looked amazingly gorgeous in the 50's... Like a model. Thanks for the good genes, Pratt/Leonard family! We laughed a TON at all that, and played Wii Sports with Mom and laughed some MORE. We drank a bit and had time in the hottub (in 15 degree weather... SO fun!), and it was just a really great time. I even squeezed in a QUICK visit with Christina Lurvey (now Sweet) from college while we were downtown. Sadly, I was not able to run into my friend Liana. I have to write her and apologize for not getting away. Mom wanted to keep us to herself again on the last night we were there... Christmas is a tough time of year for me to get away and be a Vermonter again on my own. I'm family-first...

ANYWAY, aside from holiday family togetherness... The loot wasn't bad either: PAT BOUGHT ME THE (very expensive!) BEATLES STEREO CD BOX SET COLLECTION FOR YULE!!!!! It's insane. I love it. He's crazy. And amazing. :-)
I got a great new digital camera (THANK THE GODS) from Mom & Bill, and a fab vintage-look Steelers t-shirt from my brother! It took 11.5 hours to get home last night... Left at 10am and got home at 9:30pm. I had to drive my brother home INTO Manhattan, so it was a 3 hour dalliance that left me completely beat and wondering where my evening at home to try to unpack and reconnect went... heh.

We were supposed to go to Dad's this weekend... But Pat can't go, because he has more distant family coming into town that he has to stick around to visit with, and Dad is getting some kind of oral surgery just before the weekend and isn't sure he is up to entertaining family guests after all... So, things may have to wait a while like in previous years. We may end up with Christmas-In-March or something again, or at least Late February, as I have gigs lined up like crazy at the end of January. I also have some Saturday readthrus/rehearsals for this web-series I may have gotten myself recruited onto before that, and then Matt goes to New Orleans for a mini-vacation the first week of Feb... Then there's Valentine's Day... THEN maybe time for a visit with Dad??? But who knows what kind of gigs the band will book before then? I want to nail down a weekend ASAP so that I can tell the guys "NO, I CAN'T MAKE IT" instead of, "Nope... looks like I have no plans that weekend, book it."

At any rate, I'm still working on slimming down, toning up, and trying to be healthy... Mom kept me on my exercise regimen while I was at home in Vermont. I did Turbo Jam on Monday before Yule with Pat, then again on Wednesday at Mom's, then I used her elliptical machine and did my abs-only workout together on Saturday. I LOVED her elliptical. It had a built in fan, so I wasn't DRIPPING with sweat after 20 min (and 320.2 calories burned!!), and it connects directly to your iPod, so you can have speakers instead of headphones... and great settings in general. It was a fab workout. :)

We didn't eat too badly over vacation (in fact we ate quite well, Bill is an AMAZING cook!), and even with all the delicious holiday treats, I feel like I'm no more off track than I was when I left for Vermont. I was drinking water with every "bad" meal, and no soda all week, so that was one goal I wasn't sure I would be able to fulfill, and I sure did it! Hooray!

It was a lovely week off, and as with all weeks off it ended too soon, and I find myself back here at Microsoft in a mostly-empty office until January 4th. The quiet is nice, and I know I'll be able to slack off a bunch, but it will also be BORING.

I guess I should be thankful for the "boring" days at work while they are here, and just chill out during the days, since my life outside of work is about to get crazy again... But right now all I can think about is getting home to my apartment, and my cat, and my Pat again since I've been away for a whole week now already!
