YAY! JAMIEN VISIT!
Jamien and Chris arrived around 8:30 or so on Friday evening, and we got all dolled up and went downtown to meet up with Erin Fehr (!) and Morgan, and a few of their friends for drinks and catching up. I was a happy as hell to have my Jamien finally here in the city with me, but more than a little nervous to see Erin, as (although we once were the dearest of friends) we had a falling out on the last day we lived together just after I graduated from UVM, and we hadn't been really speaking at all.
We met up at this cute little pub, and met Erin's friends Colin and Jason, and had some Cinco De Mayo Coronas... and tequila shots. Liquor tears down defenses, and it was so good to see Erin, and she was ashamed of her actions back then, even towards Rory, and I was upset that I caused any drama or upheld any bad feelings, and so we blamed the whole thing on our old landlord (as it should have been at the time), and mended our fences. It was a nice night.
Jamien and I were "accosted" by a very drunk guy who was carrying around an empty shot glass, and so, after a few minutes of him being uncomfortably close... I turned to my left (away from the guy) and started talking with Jason... I was drunk, he was receptive, so I told him my whole damn life story. lol! At one point he started to chuckle, and I was confused... so I asked what was so funny. He said nothing was *funny* he just thought I was "effervescent"... I've never been called that before. heh.
So he came with Jamien and Chris and I when we left the bar to go to breakfast (to save ourselves from possible hangover), and then finally left us at my subway stop, after FINALLY asking me for my number/e-mail... (I actually have a "date" with him tonight at my karaoke place. heh)
SATURDAY, Jamien and Chris and I went out to brunch at the bagel place, then took a subway up to check out the Best Buy on 86th St. (Chris works there and is looking into transfer options so they can move to the city) It was such a nice day, we got some ice cream and walked across Central Park from there to the West side, and down to Strawberry Fields (Jamien had never been!!!). It was a lovely walk (aside from my amusing allergies), and when we got to the mosaic at Strawberry Fields, a kid with a guitar also showed up and started playing John Lennon songs... It was lovely. Jamien has beautiful pictures of that day's decorative/memorial flowers on the mosaic.
When we finally had to pull ourselves away, we walked back to the apartment and got ready for Lestat!
Jamien and I had a great time at the show... And our review is as follows. It's... "Good."
It's CERTAINLY not as bad as all the bad reviews say it is... But we are forbidding Bernie Taupin to write lyrics for musicals... ever again. Elton's music is lovely, and at some points a *little* misplaced (in terms of appropriate style for the scene), but all in all, Act 2 was pretty rockin' and Act 1 needs a little more work. Had a good time, and in addition to the "Great Big Stuff" (from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) preshow I'm starting to work on for FDO, I'm laying in wait for the soundtrack to come out and a specific ebay auction or two to work out in my financial favor, so that I can play 'Claudia' and perform "I Want More" as a future FDO preshow... Because that was, by far, the best song in the show (And I'd only need 2 guys to help me do that one, as opposed to the large cast I will need for "Great Big Stuff").
We got home and watched the blooper reels off of a few of my DVDs, then got lazy and fell asleep watching "The Impostors."
Sunday afternoon, we went to the diner around the corner, and then went down to Brooklyn to see Erin & Morgan's apartment. It's gorgeous. Their 8th floor apartment is twice the size of my place, has a view of the Statue of Liberty & the Manhattan skyline, has an eat-in kitchen and 3 closets, and costs $1000 a month. THAT'S INSANE! AND, they have an they have an "in" with their landlord for some reason. Love it. lol! So... Maybe one day...
We hung around and chatted and continued mending fences and catching up, then headed back Uptown to my apartment. Erin & Morgan got to meet Marley, and then we headed out to "Spice" for Thai food. It's the nicest, cheapest "REAL NYC RESTAURANT" that I know of, and it was a big hit.
After dinner we met up with our friend Chuck (who I hadn't seen since I graduated from UVM!), and we all went to the bar around the corner. We spent some more time laughing and drinking Magic Hat (YAY! They have #9 right around the corner from me! Who knew?), and catching up with Chuck. But he had to leave after a while, because his allergies were acting up so badly. The rest of the 5 of us stuck around until 3ish. Moved from the table we were at to the bar when our waitress went home, and made friends with "Bob" the bartender. I shared the whole SAGA that is my recent past with Erin over more drinks, and she and Jamien and I got cute and gropey and snuggly. Much to the boys' (And BOB's) delight. At one point, I don't know how it came to this, Bob said he'd give us our drinks free if I'd do a striptease on the bar (Oh, I think this all came on from him overhearing the girls and I talking about how the strip-bar Howard Stern frequents... "SCORES"... was right around the corner)...
Well, Jamien and I attacked the jukebox, and when our song came on, I believe it was "I Touch Myself" (but it's still a bit fuzzy), I climbed up on my chair and started pullin' out some of my (non-stripping) Trixie-moves... I climbed from my chair onto the bar, and slid around the bar making eyes at Bob and then kissing the girls... And although, since I didn't strip, he wouldn't eliminate our WHOLE tab, Bob DID take $10 off. lol!
We saw Erin and Morgan to their train, then grabbed some "Hot & Crusty" bakery goods (to help with avoiding the hangover again), and went home. Chris passed out while Jamien and I snacked, and we talked until 6am, then we also passed out.
We woke up around noon... Which felt early, but was late, considering that Jamien needed to be home for work in NH by 6pm. So we hastily got them packed up and on the road, to tears and sad farewells. They'll be here in the city soon enough, and visitiation will be much easier, even with me back in DE, so I'm looking forward to many future happy times with my J-girl and our friends and loved ones.
So, that's my update. Just been lazing around really since they left...
But tonight, I have a pseudo-date to karaoke at 9pm! Woo! I'm gonna sound TERRIBLE. My cold/flu/allergy/plague is still hanging on... But I'm hopeful that it will still be a nice night. I'll let you know...
Here are my incriminating photos. Chris got his hands on my camera during my table dance. lol. I didn't take HALF enough photos from the weekend... Boooo. We even forgot the camera when we went to Lestat. Grr. But here's what I have:
(Me, Erin, & Chuck)
(My Embarassing Bar Dance):
(Look at Bob, watchin' my ass. Yay, dirty old man. He was awesome. LOL!)
(I'm sorry that you have no head in that one, Jamien... But those are some nice boobs.) ;)
Love, Steph
PS, I just got my JANET necklace today! OOh! The FDO projects I'm planning for the future will be great!!! Aside from "Great Big Stuff" and the Lestat preshows I'm working on, I start Janet in June, and I proposed a really hot "Trixie: For Two Nurses" Trixie routine.
I'm hoping Doke will let me borrow his button maker on Saturday night for a few weeks, and I will have some fun making cast buttons that I hope to have available for sale at the show as early as May 27th. ALSO, Adam will hopefully be joining when I come back to cast full time in July, so working on costumes and rehearsing with him will be fun!
I'm very excited for the future in general. It's amazing what a randomly happy weekend will do for one's disposition. :) I'm hoping it will carry over to this weekend. I'm excited to come hang with Aimee and Andy, and to see everyone and do Columbia again on Saturday (haven't played her since the X-mas show... and not a "regular" Columbia since before then... So I get to break out my new shorts & bowtie! Rock.
OK. This is a long PS. Have a nice day. ;)
