Thursday night I could have made grand advances on my work, but I decided it was important to take the night off and enjoy it with friends. Best Video had a band playing called
La Tunda (see
also) and they looked like they were really good. They certainly were--with great guitar work and really great drumming. They played only one cover, as far as we could tell. You could also tell that the lead singer was used to having to cut through loud playing with her voice, but since they were playing semi-acoustically, she'd sometimes be a little too sharp with her vocals. She'd also break out into laughter sometimes at the starts of songs, because they would sound so much different without a wailing electric guitar. They'd sometimes sound a lot like Le Tigre, especially on songs like Killer Wave.
Annie, Anish, Eric, Joe, and a guy John from Haskins that I had never met all came out for the performance. It was a lot of fun to hang out with them and then we all went over to Eric & Joe's afterward for banana bread, hummus, and whiskey. Fun conversation and fun company. I didn't expect it, but I was out past midnight on a school night. Shocking.
