Princeton excursion

Today's the first full day I've had after the conference and so I made plans to meet up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while. rdore happened to be in Philly and Elena (beepermeep8) was around in Princeton this weekend, so we all met in the town of princes. It happened to be reunion weekend there, which made getting around much more difficult than usual.

We got some lunch at Hoagie Heaven and sat down on a bench on campus to eat it and talk. Conversation inevitably drifted to the job market, both current and future, on account of all of us being in or soon being in the job-seeking phase. In short, it sucks. Otherwise, the conversation was light and merry and it was very good to see them both again. It's hard seeing friends after grad school, but it seems like NYC area is a good nexus that people end up coming through on a fairly regular basis. Richard was incredibly kind: on account of all my LJ complaining of French beers, he gave me a six-pack of assorted, quality Philly-area beers. I recognized one of the brands and knew this was a variety pack to be cherished for special moments in France. The sole can (Surly Brewing Co.'s Bender) got dinged in the car so I decided to drink it this evening: mmmmmm delicious coffee/chocolate flavor that comes out very smoothly. Apparently complaining to experts is a worthwhile activity!!! :-) So to pass on the favor, let me say that if anyone finds their local foie gras to be bland and subpar, I will try to import some from France to rescue your poor soul from mediocrity.
