Unbelievable
I am locked in my apartment. My roommate Florent left for the weekend and locked the front door with the key. This sets the deadbolt, rather than just the latch, and while the latch has a handy lever on the inside of the apartment to open it, the deadbolt does not. Sticking my key into the keyhole doesn't do anything either--it seems it has to be unlocked from the outside. How idiotic! Now I have to wait for Jerome to come home, which could be as late as 2am if he doesn't come home before work. Arggh!
This is what I get for sleeping in today.

So after 20 minutes, I remembered that the previous tenant had left an extra key to the apartment, which I found in the hall cabinet. Lucky for me, that key worked, so I exchanged it for mine. The strange thing is that a similar scenario happened at my last apartment, but that time it was Julien's key that wouldn't open the deadbolt in all configurations. It seems that the French either need to make less complicated locks or else get better at locksmithery.
