The Great Tamale Experiment

Sep 03, 2007 11:03

So since tmkr decided to throw a Mexican style outdoor party, I was charged with finding some recipes. Having heard many loud praises for the sweet corn tamales from Pedro's I decided to find some sweet corn tamale recipes. Here is the results of our attempt at making these.

Here is tmkr soaking the corn husks.

Now here is loopylape mixing the tamale goop (masa, sugar and too much cinnamon. Next time less cinnamon and less sugar might be better). See how thrilled she is.

Here are the very necessary raisins soaking and chopped pecans. There was lots of raisin and pecan hatin' from loopylape. Why choose hate when there there can be love? She clearly did not see any California raisins commercials when growing up. Also pecan pie? How can there be anything better than that? (ok cherry pie. But what else could be better?)

So here is where the thoroughly wet corn husks are stuffed with the tamale goop. This is a very precise action that must be done with all seriousness. No playing with spoons and swinging hips allows. loopylape thoroughly failed at this, but we let her do it anyways cause we weren't going to get your hands dirty. We also had the much more important task of taking photos and deciphering loopy's thread coloring scheme for the tamales.

Here is the final stack of tamales that will hopefully be devoured come Tuesday.

And here are the rewards for the hard work.
