Title: Moments of Understanding
Rating: PG
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Warnings: I believe there is like, one swear word and I don't even count it as one.
Authors Notes: I just did some research into how old my character(s) should be. 16. Well actually 15 but, I refuse to believe it. There is no way that in the first game that he was only 14. No. Anyways, moar background, next chapter there should be our favourite heroes. And I'm trying to find a title I like. So, each chapter will have a different name, and hopefully I can find on I actually like. This is chapter two btw.
It had been a few months since she left. She lived in the Disney Castle with Queen Minnie and Lady Daisy. Apparently she had been brought here King Mickey, but she didn't really remember. They asked about her family, and truthfully, the answer was always the same.
She didn't remember.
She didn't want too.
Because every time that she tried, an intense pain caused her to loose focus. Eventually she stopped trying. Queen Minnie understood, and said it would be fine if she stayed here. She was so happy, she felt her eyes sparkle and her smile was so big. It didn't go away.
She hadn't seen Mickey (since apparently he did not like being called 'King') since he found her. She wondered where he went. Queen Minnie said when she was ready, she could go to the Mysterious Tower where Mickey teacher lived. His name was Yen Sid. But, to go there she had to hone her skills and be ready for anything. Lady Daisy explained everything to her. About the Heartless, the Nobodies and the Unversed; though, the Unversed hadn't been seen in almost eleven years, she still told her about them. Just in case. Kaiden nodded, and understood that they all were dangerous. Still, what skills was she suppose to hone? She didn't have any.
Queen Minnie laughed her little elegant laugh, hidden by her hand when Kaiden had asked.
"Hold your hand out Kaiden." She did.
"Now, with all your heart, think." She was about to say 'about what?' when he mind went straight to the key she had found in her pocket. Her hand suddenly felt heavy and she looked at it. In it was a very large key. Her shocked look sent both Queen Minnie and Lady Daisy into a giggling fit.
"It's a keyblade." Was the answer she got.
"That is the skill you ares suppose to hone, along with magic." Kaiden was still sort of dumb-struck at that moment and just nodded. Still holding the key she left the presence of the nobility and went to her room.
That happened about three weeks ago.
I didn't think it would be that hard. She thought, exhausted. She was currently chilling in the court yard. Even though Queen Minnie had a barrier up, in the basement there was always Heartless and Nobodies to fight; to train with. She would train with them for along as she could and then she would nap in the court yard. Though, as time went on she would take more to make her tired, and she napped less.
She missed her napping.
"Kaiden. We have a message for you." Chip and Dale. The two really cute hardworking mechanics of the castle. She sat up, her hair sticking up in old spots and coming out of her braid. She scowled at it slightly. She really should just cut it all off.
Ignoring the slight pain in her heart for the thought she focused in on the two chipmunks "Yes, I'm coming."
She got up and followed them up the stairs, the really long stairs that took forever to get to the top of. And that lead to the main chamber. Once inside, she noted three figures. Queen Minnie, Lady Daisy and someone else. Pluto cam over to her and rub his head against her hand. She smiled and continued to pat him as the walked towards the three people near the throne.
The mysterious figure was the first to notice her.
"Is that her?"
"Yes Squall," He would have told her (harshly) that it was Leon but, it was Queen Minnie and really, why would he even bother. She would call him by his given name no matter what he said. He let out a mushroom sigh, giving her the once over. She looked sloppy and unrefined. It annoyed him.
"Oh dear. Kaiden, did you just finish your usually training?" She nodded and more of her hair came out of the braid. He could see her glaring at the piece that currently covered her left eye. He suppressed a grin. Maybe he could work with this girl after all.
"Yes, Queen Minnie I did. Sorry I look like a slob. If there was a reason behind my summoning, could I please know? I would like nothing more then to get cleaned up." And she was polite. Something she had going for her since Yuffie sure as hell wasn't. Queen Minnie smiled and pointed to Squall.
"This is Squall. He will be taking you to Radiant Garden, you will live with him from now on. In a few months you might-" She was cut off by the door being thrown open. In the doorway stood two people, one looking like a male version of Daisy and a person-like version of Pluto.
Just what was going on?
"Donald!" Cried Daisy as she went to him. He smiled (or she guessed he smiled, you could never really tell) and the person next to him laughed in a funny way. Kaiden cocked her head to the right and stared at them. Just how were they and was everyone happy to see them?
"Kaiden, those are Donald and Goofy. They are the court magician and the head of the royal guard. They are also the King's very good friends."
"Ah," She nodded. Squall came to stand beside her as a reunion of sorts took place. He placed his hand on her head and rubbed it.
"This might be your only chance to escape and get cleaned up. I'll distract them." She smiled up at him and escaped in the hidden passage way off the left, up the stairs and down the hall to the left and rounded the next corner. As her figured disappeared into the hidden passageway, Squall turned to the party of Disney characters. Queen Minnie was the only one who noticed Kaiden leave.
"We have a message form the King!" Exclaimed Donald, overenthusiastic as always. Queen Minnie nodded and waited for Donald to relay the message. He nodded and continued on, "It's for Kaiden to come to the school of Keyblade Masters and take the exam of Mastery." Worried Queen Minnie looked over to Squall.
"Do you think she is ready?" He shrugged.
"I wouldn't know your Majesty. I would have to see her in action. Without that I could not tell you." Annoyed that the Queen asked someone else, Donald decided to butt in, "What about her magic your Majesty, has she learn it yet?" She was about to answer when a voice from the viewing area answered.
"I do know how to use magic. Very well thank you. And you would be?" Because of how high the viewing area is, it seemed like her voice was omnipotent. Though, she could see them and her red hair was an obvious flag. Donald is short-tempered, and with her apparent disrespect for him, he boiled over.
"YOU! I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY THE KING WANTS YOU TO TAKE THE TEST! IT'S CLEAR THAT YOU HAVE NO ABILITY!!" Annoyed at the short-duck person or not she would not fall into his trap. Instead she left the viewing area and head back to the throne room. When she emerged, she was wearing the cloths that she had come in and her hair was pulled back in a very tight braid. Her green orbs betrayed nothing to the still steaming Donald.
"What test?" Squall sighed and watched the scene unfold. The Queen explained to her what the test/exam was, where it was to be held and who these people were. It seemed to Squall that his reason fro coming here has now been taken away from him. Slightly annoyed, he waited until the Queen was done with her explanation and took his leave. Kaiden noted him as he left and want to apologize. After all he came all the way out here to help her and now he was empty-handed. She felt bad. Maybe if this finished quickly she could go and say sorry...
"Kaiden, go pack your bags. You'll be leaving soon. Kaiden?" She nodded, but didn't head right to her room. Instead she ran down to the Gummi Ship area, hoping to catch Squall before he left. She did, he was just getting on his ship.
"Squall!" He turned to face her, his intense blue eyes showing no emotion but his face showed annoyance.
"Call me Leon."
"Right. Leon, I came to say I'm sorry." He cocked a brow and tilted his head, confused. Under his curious gaze she became self-conscious. She focused in on the dirt and hit it with the tip of her shoe repeatedly.
"I-I mean that, you had to come all the way out here and now you are leaving empty handed. I just feel bad, that's all," He walked towards her and put his head on her head. She waited for him to do something, he rubbed her head affectionately.
"Don't worry about it. You can pay me back later once you take the exam. Come visit me in Radiant Garden."
"For sure!" He nodded, turned back around and headed back into the ship. She waved as he took off. I will see you again, I promise Squall- Leon. I will.
"Hey Kaiden, it's almost time to leave have you packed yet?"
"AH!" Chip and Dale laughed as she dashed back to her room, grabbing what she needed. Tonight was the night that they were leaving to the School of Keyblade Masters, and in a few day she would be tested with three other people. Excited to meet new people she packed quickly, though she couldn't help but feel some unease.
A good thing or a bad thing?
