Sunday AM, I've been wanting to do this for some weeks now, go shooting. I also knew
Borderpilot and
kalaharifox were suffering itchy trigger fingers. The boys showed up shortly after 10AM, Andrew jazzing to test drive a Stevens 77A 12 guage shotgun he plans to buy off me, plus exercise his Ruger 10/22. Chris lacked any weapons locally, borrowed several of mine.
Chris wanted to test drive my Browning High Power and Star Firestar M43 9MM, Taurus 24/7 .45ACP, Sig 232 .380, Erma "Baby P-38" .22, Rossi "puma" .357 lever action carbine, Polish M-44 Mosin Nagant carbine and Ruger PC-4 carbine. He wanted more, but they were buried deep in safes. From there to Walmart to aquire ammo and headed off to meet up with
Moose_93395 at his place in the middle of Buttfuck'O'Nowhere Wisconsin.
Moose's roomie Charlie told us of a nearby range, but after scouring the area for weeks and weeks, we gave up and followed a map given to me by a Drunken man in a bar, past the Monolith to Insectopia. After Chris graciously drove us to somewhere in Western North Dakota tracking down this alledged place, we finally found "Pumpkin Corners", a private shooting range that allowed "outsiders" to use the range. Strict rules applied there, had to police up all spent brass, pick up shot up targets and leave a donation. Not quite the quality of Deerfield, But I also lack $35 to renew my membership there.
Moose dragged along his Springfield M-14 and Hi Standard .22 pistol, we set up water bottles and a few paper targets and blasted away. Chris especially worked the M-44 and BHP, Andrew worked the action of the shotgun and tossed numerous rounds downrange. I spent more time brass catching and searching than shooting...oh well. Andrew gained more respect for the shotgun when I had him blast a 2 litre bottle of water into oblivion. The Puma lever action carbine was especially liked. I want Moose's M-14 when he dies!
Then it was back home for a fine meal and round of gun cleaning. Normally I'd have photos posted, but stupidly forgot it, But photos can be seen at
borderpilot's and
kalaharifox's own LJs.
