Kris shuddered, the tremors starting at his spine and spreading out until he was shaking everywhere. He groaned, dropping his head back and not even flinching when he hit the wall, because Adam’s mouth was doing all these impossible things to him and he couldn’t get himself to feel anything except for that.
Adam hummed, making him gasp and his hips twitch, his hands going to Adam’s hair and tangling in the thick strands. Adam chuckled, making more vibrations shiver up his spine, and started sucking and licking again, tugging at Kris’ hips to encourage him. Kris licked his lips, before dropping his head forward again and moaning when he saw those bright blue eyes staring up at him, freckled lips wrapped around his cock. He sucked in a breath before he started rocking his hips slightly, shivering at the continued moans around him.
“Kris?”
Huh… Kris stared down at Adam, wondering how he could be talking while he was…
“Kriiis…”
Kris blinked a few times, finding himself curled around Adam in bed, instead of up against a dark wall, Adam on his knees in front of him and…
“Oh…” He untangled himself from Adam, feeling his face heating up. “Um…”
Adam chuckled. “Good dream, I take it.” He wrapped Kris up in his arms before he could get much farther and pressed a kiss to the younger man’s temple. “What was it?”
He blushed some more. “N-nothing.” He shrugged out of Adam’s arms, then padded over to the bathroom. He sighed as he stared into the mirror, grimacing at himself. He figured… at some point that they should move past just rutting against each other but… I don’t think… He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head violently; he did not need to doubt himself today. It was a very important day, he could not be freaking out at all.
He let out a deep, cleansing breath, then bent down to splash water over his face, then looked back into the mirror, watching the droplets drip off his jaw. It was Friday… already; he didn’t think it would’ve come so fast but there it was. Just… she has to like me… like Adam said, I love him and… He flinched. He sees me as a good person…
“Oh god…” Kris dropped his head to the counter, groaning. This was not going to be good, he could feel it…
“You good?” Adam was asking him that question, again. Kris sighed.
“I don’t really…” He shrugged and let out a breath. “Just, I’m just nervous…” He shook himself a little, trying to shake out all the nerves and negative thoughts. He huffed, running a hand through his hair, mussing it up. “I just want everything to go well…”
Adam was quiet for a moment, before he curled his arms around Kris from behind, kissing his head and murmuring into his hair. “It will, I know it will.”
Kris stiffened when he heard a knocking at the door and Adam squeezed him tighter for a moment before pressing a soft, gentle kiss to his temple and getting up to answer it.
He stood up when he heard voices from the doorway, and sucked in a deep breath. Here we go…
When he turned around the corner he saw Adam with an older woman with his eyes and dark hair. She looked up at him and looked him over, and Kris had a brief moment of panic that whatever she was seeing she didn’t like.
Adam cleared his throat, moving beside Kris and hugging him into his side. “Mom, this is Kris. Kris, this is-”
The woman shook her head, reaching out to hug Kris with a smile. “Just call me Leila.” She squeezed his shoulders. “It’s so nice to meet you. It’s been a long time since Adam has wanted me to meet any of his boyfriends so I must say it’s a relief to know you’re taking well enough care of him for that.”
Kris can’t help the little swell of pride at that, and then the giddy smile that itches at his lips when Adam blushes and moves them into the living room to distract them.
As soon as they were settled in, Adam left the two of them alone to get drinks, the traitor.
Leila settled her sharp, intense gaze on him, a more business-like air around her now. Kris swallowed. “So… I know this may be a little clichéd but I have to ask what your intentions are with my son.” She smiled, disarming the sharp tone she took, just a little. “Since Hayden I’ve gotten a little more protective of his heart, I just want to make sure you understand that.”
He felt himself tense up at the mention of his name, letting out a breath to force himself to relax before he answered. “I would never do that to Adam.” He brushed a hand through his hair nervously when she continued to watch him. “I love him and… he’s already done so much for me and helped me more than… and he pushes me to be a better person.” He shrugged, feeling his lips lifting in a soft smile. Hope he’s listening to this. “I could… honestly, at this point? I can’t… see myself being this better person without him. And I can’t see myself with anyone else and being as happy as I am or as loved.” He glanced back up at Leila, seeing the huge smile on her face. “Um, I just…”
She chuckled and held up a hand. “That’s enough. I think you got your point across.” She sat up a little straighter when Adam came back into the room - his eyes a little shinier than usual, Kris noticed - balancing the three glasses in his hands and settling in beside Kris on the couch. “So, how’d you two meet?”
Uh oh… Kris shared a nervous look with Adam before Adam sat up a little straighter, curling an arm around Kris’ shoulders. “Just saw each other in a club and we sat down and started to get to know each other a little better and just… hit it off.”
Oh yeah, we got to know each other, alright. Whoa, okay, shut up, not the time or company to think of that! Kris turned his blushing face into Adam’s shoulder as Leila laughed.
“Mmhmm, I’m sure you did.” Kris flushed some more and finally took a deep breath and shoved down his embarrassment. “So, Kris, what do you do, exactly?”
He blinked at the subject change and sat up a little straighter. “Um, I… work at a warehouse that a friend of mine works at.” He paused a moment and, when he realized she was waiting for more, he continued. “It started out as a few favors for him when someone wouldn’t come in, and when his boss realized I was more efficient than most of his hired staff he gave me a job.”
Leila hummed and nodded. “And anything else? Like, any hobbies you have?”
Oh… um… He stumbled over a few things in his head, most of them being shoved back immediately. I don’t really… do those any more… ever since… “I used to play guitar.” He just barely stopped his jaw from dropping when he heard himself say that. No, no, I… shit.
A sudden flood of memories came, bursting bitter and harsh in his mind. He bit into his tongue, bringing himself back quickly, before he could get lost in those memories again. “E-excuse… I have…” He stood up suddenly, twisting out from under Adam’s arm and rushing down the hall, turning into the washroom and locking the door after him.
He gripped the counter tight, still biting onto his tongue, trying to shove away all the thoughts; so cold, scared, hurt, lonely, unwanted, hands and fingers throbbing, legs and hips numb, everything hurting, always hurting, cold, cutting stares, always alone, so…
“Fuck.” He let up on his tongue, the tip throbbing in his mouth, and reach out to turn up the cold full blast. The bit of water that splashed up onto his stomach shocked him out for a moment, and he ducked down, cupping the water in his hands, feeling it fleck onto his face and neck before he splashed the chilled pool up, gasping and slumping back when everything faded away. He breathed, once, twice, his hands starting to go numb under the rush of water, then turned the faucet off and leaned back against the wall.
The numbness faded away, too, leaving behind shame and embarrassment. God… so much for making a good impression. He huffed. She probably thinks I’m a freak… flipping out like that over one little question… He scrubbed a hand over his face, grimacing. No way is she going to be okay with me staying with Adam…
He jumped at a knocking on the door, relaxing immediately when Adam’s voice followed. “Kris? Are you okay?” Another knock. “Let me in.”
Before Adam had even finished talking he was unlocking the door and opening it, falling into Adam’s arms as soon as he stepped inside.
Adam wrapped his arms tight around Kris, making a shield against the thoughts and memories and anything else that could hurt him. He pressed kisses all along Kris’ face, waiting for a moment, before he pulled back. “Are you alright now?”
No… Kris took a breath, trying to anchor himself with Adam, trying to shove away all the negative feelings into the same box as the memories. “Yeah…” He nuzzled into Adam’s shoulder, his lips against a freckled neck, feeling his pulse beating under them. “Just…” He swallowed back the rest of the words, feeling that shame burning back up.
Adam ran his hand through Kris’ hair, his thumb brushing against his ear. “It’s alright.” He murmured. “My mom still adores you, if that’s what you’re worried about.” Kris blushed and nodded, and Adam smiled. “She was worried she said something wrong and sent me here to apologize and bring you back out with the promise of no more questioning.”
Kris laughed, feeling a little bit lighter with it. Adam dragged his hands back down around Kris’ back and tugged him in, pressing their lips together for a moment. “So, you ready to go back?”
Taking another breath, Kris nodded and followed Adam out, steadying himself and keeping those walls up as a precaution to keep the painful thoughts out. He didn’t get very far before Leila was pulling him into her arms, hugging him tight. When she let go she held her hands up with a soft, motherly smile. “No more questions, I promise.” She pulled him down next to her on the couch, leaving Adam to curl up between his legs on the floor. Kris tangled his hand through Adam’s hair, smiling at how the thick, dark locks felt in his fingers, and even more when Adam turned his face into Kris’ knee, rubbing against it affectionately. His own hand was turned up on Kris’ lap, lacing with his other hand and brushing a thumb along his knuckles.
Leila chuckled softly. “This reminds me of when Adam was younger…” She brushed a few strands of black behind a freckled ear, Adam smiling up at the two of them. “He used to curled up at my feet and do this on his bad days. And eventually it got to be calming for me that he’d just curl up beside me hold me and let me on my bad days.” She chuckled when Adam tilted his head back fully into Kris’ lap, humming softly, blue eyes looking directly up into his. He swallowed down the lump that formed in his throat seeing the emotion reflected in those eyes. Love, awe, hope, pride… How can he feel all that for me…?
Adam’s lips turned up, his eyes crinkling and shining a little brighter. Because you are all of those to me.
Kris curled up on Adam’s lap, contented and dozy, Adam arm curled lightly around his waist. He listened to Leila rattling off story after story about Adam after the first homemade meal he’d had in a long time - after dragging them all out for shopping once she saw the state of Adam’s kitchen. He smiled and leaned back against Adam, hearing a light, playful ‘oomf’ from him. He tilted his head back, trying to picture Adam with the strawberry-blonde hair from what Leila described. No… can’t really see it…
A few minutes from midnight Leila gathered up her purse and pressing a kiss to Adam’s cheek as he stood up with Kris. “Take care, baby.” She turned to Kris, grinning before she pulled him into a hug. “I hope everything gets better for you, Kris.” She gave him a little squeeze. “If you ever need to talk or anything, just call.”
Kris felt his eyes start stinging. He sucked in a breath and nodded when she pulled away, smiling. “Thanks.”
She shook her head, patting his shoulder. “Thank you for taking care of my son.” She gave both of them one last hug before leaving with a wave, the door clicking shut and leaving the apartment in a semi-quiet, aside from their combined breathing.
“Well…” Adam turned Kris around, grinning, wrapping his arms loosely around Kris’ waist. “That went pretty well…” He grinned into Kris’ hair, tugging him back slightly toward the bedroom. He pressed his lips to Kris’ forehead, smiling as Kris laughed while he moved. He kept tugging him back until he got to the bed, letting Kris go long enough to sprawl onto the bed and pull him down on top. He leaned up, soft, coral lips brushing lightly over his, sending shudders down his back. “You remember… what you said… earlier?” He murmured in-between kisses, hands traveling further down his back until they tightened around the backs of his thighs, making every nerve stand at attention and all the blood in his body rush south.
“Mmm…” Kris groaned, arching into Adam’s touch. Need more skin… He pushed Adam’s shirt up, tugging it up and over his head and tossing his away after, not thinking about how exposed he was, just shuddering and moaning softly as Adam’s hands traced over his shoulder blades, fingers skimming the bumps of his spine before settling again at his thighs. “N-no… I…”
His hips twitched forward when Adam’s hands tightened, tugging him closer, skin touching skin and electrifying everything. Adam chuckled softly, his voice low and thick. “The whole thing about not being able to see yourself with anyone else?” Kris blinked, his mind slapping some sense back into him, telling him to sit up and pay attention. Adam’s eyes shimmered in the near dark, that teasing, sweet smile curling his lips slightly. Adam squeezed his thighs and arched up, pressing those lips to his throat lightly over and over before he traced the kisses up, following the bobbing of his Adam’s apple as he swallowed, over his jaw and pressing sweet and full to his mouth, making him shudder all over again.
When he pulled back, Adam was grinning, a hand gliding up to run through his hair. “I don’t think I can either. I mean…” He laughed lightly, shaking his head. “You don’t realize it, I know you don’t, but you’ve saved me, just as much as I’ve saved you.” At Kris’ look of confusion he shrugged. “I was starting to think after Hayden that… I couldn’t find someone that I’d be able to love or trust again. That I wouldn’t be able to find someone who’d want me for me more than just my looks or my voice.” He dropped his hand from Kris’ hair, tracing over his cheek and jaw, folding out and cupping his cheek. “And then I found you and… Everything you said tonight just sort of…” He chewed on his lip, looking for the right word, then smiled. “It set everything for me, hearing everything you felt with me, having you say all those things I felt…”
“Stop…” Kris choked out, shaking his head, trying to just shut Adam up because he couldn’t take it. “Please, just…”
Adam clucked his tongue when he trailed off, brushing his hand back up, cupping the back of Kris’ neck gently. “I do… I think you push me to be better, and you make me feel loved and beautiful and - mmf.”
He watched Adam’s eyes slip shut, lips soft and plush and the kiss slow and lazy. Kris relaxed, letting himself fall over Adam, his own eyes closing and just letting himself feel every press of lips, legs and arms tangling together until he couldn’t discern his limbs from Adam’s, breaths shared and words and phrases transferred with every kiss. Overwhelming… so… His thoughts paused when Adam slowly flipped them, moving over him. He paused for a moment, his heart stuttering because… it was unfamiliar, and it felt a little like he was trapped. Then Adam pulled back, blue eyes watching him carefully. No this is… this is fine, more than fine… He smiled and tugged Adam back, melding their mouths together again, and again, and again. This is perfect…
