The City of Brotherly Love...

Good Afternoon, LJ'ers. Greetings from Philadelphia...what a long strange trip it has been. Let's begin at the very beginning, a very fine place to start:

We flew from Charleston to Cincinnati with no difficulties, but once we arrived in Cincy (almost immediately, in fact) we were informed that all flights to Philly had been canceled. Not only that, but any later flights had already been filled. There was a flight to Allentown, however. Since Allentown is only an hour away from Philly, we figured it shouldn't be that hard once we arrived.

Wrong.

It turns out that there isn't a train or anything, plus, all rental cars cost $75 and up. We had decided to try to get a taxi to the Greyhound station when a gentleman who had also flown into Allentown from Cincy said he would drive us the Philly airport...he was renting a car, it turned out.

So, in more time than it would take to drive from Huntington to Philly, we arrived at the most fabulous hotel. My room is gorgeous:

Here is my fabulously comfortable bed. I still sleep on the very edge of it, though.

This is my view. The Septa building.

The street, 15 floors down.

Bathroom.

The whole room is bigger than my apartment.

It's quite lovely, actually. I read all of these research papers and there are two or three that I just consider to be absolutely brilliant. I've managed to meet all of those authors already! Last night, we had a meet and greet and I got tipsy.

Hopefully I will soon have pictures from the out-of-doors...conference stuff has been a bit overwhelming since we arrived.

Oh! One last thing. Today we had lunch at this marketplace that has all these tons of little tiny booths. It was like a food court on crack. We had savory crepes...they were quite good.
