I looked at Li Yin. Her smile seemed heartwarming, but somehow I still felt the air grew icy as we walked together to the nearby hut.
“Hyunjoong shii.” Li Yin’s voice caught me by surprise. “I really don’t know what I’m suppose to do.” She stared off into the distance. “I like Youngsaeng. I really do like him.”
*I like Youngsaeng* that sentence stick into my mind with an unstoppable force.
“I’m glad you like him.” I manage to make myself chock out. “At least I know they my …best friend…is going to get a good life companion for the rest of his life.”
“I think I will find Youngsaeng a very good companion indeed.” She never once looked at me. “He seems to be a very nice person. Taking care of me for the past few days.”
I can feel the fake expression on my face becoming stiffer as she went on about the kindness that Youngsaeng have been showing her, the kindness that I’ve been missing since she has arrived. Her happiness brought me pain, her happniness brought me loneliness. She is the knife that won’t stop stabbing m heart.
“I know that you love Youngsaeng very much…” Li Yin turned to me finally. Meeting with my eyes, she spoke the rest of her sentence. “…it’s more than what you would call as ‘best friends’.
“Please get to the point.” I wanted to escape from Li Yin’s grasp. The more she stared at me, the more I felt her mind sinking into mine. I felt like a book, and she was reading me without a problem.
“I think I have spoken too much.” She detected the impatience in my tone. “Maybe you’re not the person I should talk to then.” Suddenly Li Yin stopped her conversation with me. “Sorry to disturb you.” She left the hut quickly before I could react.
Did I say something wrong?
Wait. Why I feel guilty?
Wait. What if Li Yin tells Youngsaeng about today? The expression on her face wasn’t a pleasant one either.
What am I going to do now?
***
Over the next few days, it was hectic for everyone.
Youngsaeng and Li Yin was busy attending to events with the king and queen. The rest of us were never far behind, especially me. I had to attend all events on the behalf of my father when is out of town.
The sight of Youngsaeng and Li Yin next to each other never left. The fact that they were getting married in less than a month time was consistently reminded. The flame in my heart is slowly being drowned with my own sorrows, and I can’t do anything about it.
Walking through the palace, there wasn’t an inch that was being decorated by red things, red lantern, red banners. Double happiness signs are on every possible window.
Youngsaeng had been nice enough to make sure that our stay is still comfortable. So Hara stayed by my side to make sure I was well accompanied.
Hyunah never for once liked the formal dinner that she had to attend alongside her brother. It’s sad really, she was never really made out to be a princess, and yet she has to be one. The good news is that because Hyunah and Sooyoung lived so close to each other now, they’ve actually got close…that is until when Sooyoung sees her Kyujong oppa…then things gets out of hand.
There is still a problem I have to deal with, but it does make it hard for me when my mind is occupied with Youngsaeng and Li Yin and the fact that they are about to get married. That does remind me…where is Hyungjoon, and more importantly, where is playboy Jungmin?!
With the overcrowding amount of servants working on the decoration, it was hard to find anyone.
I walked to my living courtyard. From far I saw Hara trying to explain things to Butler Kim. When I meant explain, it was more being punished. I quickly rushed over.
I saw Butler Kim getting all the servants to put on red lanterns, banners and double happiness signs everywhere. Hana tried her best to stop them, but it was no use.
“Who dared you to come to my living quarter!” I raised my voice.
Hara looked nervously at me.
“It’s a tradition to decorate the palace in red for one’s wedding.” Butler Kim looked at without showing the slightest bit of respect.
“Butler Kim, I have the permission from the Crown Prince that me and my family’s living quarters can be spared from the sea of redness, so please take your man and leave.”
“Master Hyunjoong, this is palace tradition. Please respect them.” Butler Kim glared at me.
“Do you want to disobey the Crowned Prince.” I question him.
“Master Hyunjoong…” Butler Kim tried to fight back.
I didn’t let him finish off his sentence. “Take you man and LEAVE.” I brought out my authority.
Butler couldn’t do anything but leave. His face wasn’t pretty.
“Master Hyunjoong.” Hara bowed to me after the Butler left.
I looked down at Hara. “Please get rid of all these red things. They make my eyes hurt.” As I left for my bedroom I tore down several red decorations and threw them on the floor.
I was glad another day of cheerful celebrations has ended. But I’m also depressed to remember that there is just another day just like today tomorrow. Looking at Youngsaeng and Li Yin, feeling that deep pain within me.
I tried to occupy myself with self against self chess game. After 10 games won by me, I soon lost interest.
I tried writing some poems, but just to realize that they all reflected my broken heart.
Nothing was going right.
*Ding Ding Ding*
The clock strokes twelve. I was still looking out the window, dozing out.
*Knock, Knock, Knock*
My mind turned to the visitor outside my window.
