They're delicate and pretty in a way pills will never be, so he decides to pretend they'll work and pops two into his mouth before crawling into bed. The sugar dissolves slowly on his tongue and the only active ingredient is distraction, really, but he sleeps through the night and wakes up not knowing whom to thank.
The obvious answer, Youngbae, only looks at him funny when he starts carrying around the jar that contains his favorite mix - a blend of pinks and yellows and oranges that reminds him of sunsets. He keeps it in his bag and slips one or two stars into his mouth on boring breaks between photo shoots, or when his throat starts to ache during long recording sessions, or when he sits alone late at night with nothing but sheet music and his own ugly thoughts for company.
He takes a jar with him (pink and green and yellow, like glowsticks) when he goes clubbing, because he knows he'll take something if he doesn't. It's not so bad - the buzz of the alcohol is enough to keep him entertained, and the sweetness of the candy counters the citrusy mintiness of his Mojitos surprisingly well. Seungho likes to steal the stars from his mouth, chasing after them with his hand on the back of Jiyong's neck, and that helps, too.
It's only during Big Bang's next stint in Japan that he figures out where the stars came from. A small bag of them materializes on his bed one evening, pastel blues and greens and whites labeled "ajisai". He picks it up, carefully selects one candy of each color and puts them into his mouth before walking over to Seungri's room. It's not like anyone else has the key to their apartment.
Seungri looks up from his laptop, looks at the bag in his hand, and it takes only a few seconds of silence before he fidgets uncomfortably. "... I know you like stars, so."
Jiyong nearly asks what he means by that, but then he remembers the sweatpants he's wearing are covered in stars. So's his favorite beanie. And a few of his undershirts. And the margins of his notebooks. "Yeah... Thanks."
Seungri inclines his head slightly in acknowledgment, then watches him with a thoughtful expression on his face, looking older than Jiyong's ever noticed. "Do they help?"
Jiyong nods, rolling the sweet little spheres from one side of his mouth to the other.
"Oh. Well, good." He looks down at his laptop again, tapping the touchpad, and Jiyong decides to wait until the stars completely dissolve in his mouth to decide whether he wants to kiss Seungri.
