Kibum sat on his desk the next morning. He hated the fact that Taemin was two levels below him. He didn’t want to graduate and leave Taemin behind. It wasn’t because Taemin wouldn’t survive without him, no. Rather, it was because Kibum didn’t want to move to another school without someone he knows.
“Good morning, Kibum!” Lee Jinki came skipping happily towards him.
As usual, Kibum ignored him. Onew pouted then went back to his own seat. Kibum sighed as he saw the boy sit down, still pouting. He planned on taking a nap to pass the time but quickly forgot about this the moment Kim Jonghyun went inside their room.
Kibum suddenly got up without thinking and walked towards Jonghyun. He plopped down on the seat in front of the other boy and poked his head.
“You’re feeling better.” Kibum sighed in relief. “That’s good.”
Jonghyun smiled and nodded enthusiastically. “Thank you for the medicine and the porridge.”
“Sure thing.” Kibum got back up and started making his way towards his seat.
“Hold on!” Onew dashed to his side. “You ignore me when I greet you yet you talk to Jonghyun on your own free will!”
“W-what? It-it’s not-what-that’s-eh?!” Kibum got tongue-tied, which surprised everyone in their class. Kibum heaved a deep sigh and looked at Onew intently. “Look Jinki, I-it’s because I was the reason why Jonghyun got sick. So I just took responsibility for it.”
The class went crazy. They all jumped into random conclusions. Kibum could only keep quiet while they all grilled him for details of when he went to Jonghyun’s house. It annoyed the hell out of him how the class suddenly felt it was okay to talk to him as though they were friends.
When the bell rang, Kibum let out silent prayers, thanking God for ending all of the annoying buzzing in his ears by his classmates. But the joy wouldn’t last long. God had different plans for him.
“Good morning, everyone.” Their teacher greeted. “There are three new people joining us today. Please treat them nicely.”
Three boys entered the room and Kibum sat frozen in his seat. A smile suddenly crept up his face when one of them winked at him.
“I’ll speak for the three of us.” The middle one said. “My name is Jang Hyunseung. Beside me are Yang Yoseob and Lee Kikwang. Please be nice to us.”
The teacher instructed them to take the seats surrounding Kim Kibum. Kibum couldn’t have been any happier.
When the bell rang, signaling the start of lunch break, Kibum was swept away by the three new students. They brought him to one of the lunch tables on the left side of the cafeteria and grinned at him.
“You are just-“Kibum started.
“Just what, Kim Kibum?” Hyunseung raised an eyebrow at him. “Aren’t you going to give us a welcome hug?”
Kibum smiled and pulled the three of them in a group hug. He felt happy that he finally had someone he knew in his class.
“Why are you here, though?” Kibum asked while sipping on a carton of juice.
“Well, we got tired of it there.” Yoseob shrugged. “Actually, it was only Hyunseung-hyung who planned on transferring. But we just couldn’t let him go alone.”
Kibum looked at Hyunseung, who was staring off into space. “Is it because of him?”
Hyunseung snapped back to reality at Kibum’s words. The three of them exchanged awkward glances before looking back at Kibum and nodding. “They broke up.”
“Yah!” Kibum gasped. “What did the idiot do?!”
Kikwang sighed heavily. “Well, to start, Junhyung-hyung changed.”
“What do you mean-oh shit, that’s him?!” Kibum exclaimed when Yoseob shoved a picture of the “new” Junhyung under his nose.
Hyunseung nodded sadly. “I’m not good enough for him anymore.”
“Actually,” Yoseob said. “That’s not it.”
“Finish it, then!” Kibum shouted.
“Junhyung-hyung turned into that, right?” He said while pointing at Junhyung’s picture. “He got way more attention than before. You know, girls clinging to him and all that shit?”
Kibum nodded.
“Well, he was glad about all the attention. Hyunseung-hyung was overpowered by the green-eyed monster and got mad.”
“So, they fought!” Kikwang concluded. “And believe me, it wasn’t pretty. I was there.”
Hyunseung slapped the back of Kikwang’s head. Kikwang scowled and looked at Kibum, who looked like he was troubled about something.
“Then what about-“Kibum bit his lip. “Nevermind.”
Before the three could ask Kibum to continue, Yoseob’s phone rang. He pressed the receiver to his ear. “Doojun-hyung?”
Hyunseung and Kikwang looked at each other awkwardly.
“No-I’m sorry I didn’t tell you-yeah-I’m with Hyunseung-hyung and Kikwang.” He muttered softly. “JUNHYUNG-HYUNG DID WHAT?!”
Hyunseung jumped up at the mention of Junhyung’s name. Yoseob hung up and looked at the other three, his eyes full of worry. “Junhyung-hyung is throwing a fit!”
“He’s probably just having a bad case of PMS.” Kibum shrugged.
Kikwang burst out laughing-gasping and choking for air. “Aigoo, Kibummie! You still have a way with your words.”
“Don’t be so nonchalant about this, guys.” Yoseob knitted his eyebrows together. “Doojun-hyung’s coming here in the afternoon.”
“And?”
“We don’t know who he’s bringing with him." [
