"Makes Kill Bill look like Sesame Street" -Pete Hammond, Maxim
Which is why I never take the Maxim movie reviews seriously.
That's off the front of the Running Scared box. I think in order to make a movie that would make Kill Bill look like Sesame Street you would have to create something that nobody would produce. Especially if you weren't Quentin Tarantino. Now, granted I've only seen like the first 15 minutes thanks to Molly Powers, but I think it's safe to say that if (as I've heard) the movie only gets more violent from there... well, yeah.
I think I just figured out why I like Kayleigh so much (from Serenity)-- she's the perfectly balanced female characters according to female archetypes. Traditionally in the movies, women are either overly sensitive or overly agressive-- there is no in betewen. That is to say, either they act like "women" or they act like "men"-- those who aren't overly agressive in a violent manner are overly agressive sexually. Kaleigh is one of the few characters that acts in a normal fashion. She wants to get laid, just like any woman, but she's not overly agressive about it. She's also a warrior of sorts, she can hold her own in a battle, and she knows her way around a ship-- but she doesn't feel an absence of pain. She feels emotion when people are hurt, when people disappear, and at what we would consider to be appropriate times for any human being to show emotion. I'm also a fan of the fact that she says, "Been months since I had anything 'twixt my nethers weren't run on batteries!"
Anyone car to help out on a bulk order of "Joss Whedon is my Master Now" shirts? This is just such a great movie! Whoooo!
I also wouldn't mind being Anara. She kicks ass, as well.
Basically, Joss does well with not leaving a trace of an over mysoginized world, which is part of why the girl geek slike him as much as the boy geeks who like exploding things.
What to watch next?
And yes, you guys get alllll my fun rambling around LJ because I can. So there.
I think we're gonna go for the new Manchurian Candidate. I oughtta just go alphabetically instead of torturing myself like this, but whatev. At the moment, I'm just tryin to see the ones that'll look best on Joey's big ass tv ;o)
Now, to eat my linguine with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper, it's gonna be greeeaaat.
More rambling later maybe?
Edit:
I decided that I'd watch Swordfish instead because it's HD and won't play on Amy's DVD player
