Two Bits of Goodness, Expected and Unexpected ...
First one is easy. One of my very good friends in RL (unfortunately, she doesn't have a LJ) is celebrating her birthday today. I plan to call later today; she jokes she expects my phone call each year because I'm so predictable. I've known her since sixth grade and been friends since about ninth grade.
That was the expected one. The unexpected one was work-related, which boggled my mind. I checked my email this morning and saw one from our Intellectual Property Dept. It appears the US Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) will grant me a joint patent in late-February. A coworker and I submitted the application something like two years go (might have been longer).
Aside from the coolness factor of having two patents on my resume, I get a small monetary bonus. More geek toys!
ETA: Yep, the application dates back around the end of August 2002. 3.5 years. No wonder I forgot about it.
