So, with nothing to do today we (my sis and I) decided to meet up with my cousin at plaza to check out their new digs.
So in my opinion, the newly remodeled part of plaza is pretty sweet. It's located in the abandoned lot that montgomery ward used to be at. It's pretty much a large, open food court with high ceilings, it kind of reminds of an airport terminal (in a good way). It's got sleek rectangular lights, and lots of places to sit and socialize. You also have access to the new Borders bookstore (which you can also access off the street), and the court ends at the new AMC theater entrance, which you can see as soon as you enter the newly remodeled area. Apparently the theater features "digital projectors" and screens that are "3 stories high", whatev, as if it hasn't been done. There's also a downstairs area where the new Target is going to be, and it allows you to circulate back to "old plaza bonita".
Overall I think they've done a great job trying to revitalize an area that wasn't used for a while, it's about damn time, and for us O.G chula vista residents, it's a welcome addition. Don't get me wrong, there are still annoying teens to put up with, and there are still MUCH better malls in s.d county, but plaza needed a face lift badly. In terms of the new food court, they've got some variety in food choices, and I'm sure they'll be adding more. A word of advice, don't eat at Johnny Rockets. The service is horrible. We ordered some malt shakes, and it took nearly half an hour! If not longer. People were yelling expletives left and right. It's the longest I've ever had to wait for food, and these were just shakes. Borders was pretty nice as far as bookstores go, there's an indoor coffee shop, as usual, lots of little computers to search, and areas to sample music. Their arch section rocks, I already purchased some bargain worthy books.
The mall's just got a nice flow to it now, a good night out. Do some shopping, grab a bite to eat and hit the movies. Shek it out sometime.
