Earthquake Report
They report quite extensively on the earthquake that happened earlier in the day, level 5 - also based out in the ocean by northern Japan. They showed footage of the effects in surrounding prefectures.

Japan's New Pandas Get Names
Koyama helped introduce a segment that talks about Ueno Zoo's new panda's names. The male is named Riri and the female is named Shinshin. Both pandas seem to have grown used to their new zoo home.

Eating breakfast out
Although eating out is declining in popularity, restaurants are finding they can expand sales by offering morning meals. By offering breakfast specials they can pull in lots of customers. Even noodle and rice bowl shops are offering breakfast deals.

Koyama says he always tries to wake up with plenty of time before work so he eats out quite a bit - eating breakfast gives you a lot of energy and these days there are so many options there's no reason not to try.

Hayabusa - Special Aomori Gourmet

Hayabusa is the name of the new shinkansen (bullet train) that runs between Tokyo and Aomori-- making the trip all the way up north take nothing but 3 hours and 10 minutes. The train stops at Shin-Aomori station which is packed with souvenir shops.

Koyama checks out a ramen shop in the station that has a special "hayabusa" set. It comes with tsukemen noodles in a long thin tray with toppings to make it look like the hayabusa train! Wakame seaweed is mixed with the noodles to make them look greenish like the train.

Shin-Aomori has also come up with it's own "ekiben" train station bento. Everyone sees the new hayabusa as a chance to bring life back into the area. They've already seen a 12% jump in tourism.

Koyama then visits a cake shop located several stops away from where the hayabusa runs... but even if the hayabusa doesn't stop there, they've still come up with a special cake to celebrate! The 1500 yen "hayabusa parfait" uses roll cake, jam and ice cream to make a model of the hayabusa. Koyama comments the apple flavor is really strong (Aomori is famous for apples).

They're celebrating the debut of the hayabusa in Hokkaido's tourist spot Hakodate too. They're giving our free seafood nabe.
