a/n for unniefic's 24 hour challenge! prompt #2
"So, we haven't done this in awhile."
"Done what?"
"Well, you know, this," Onew points at the stars that hover overhead. He blinks a few times, trying to make out the features of her face in the dark. The moon is their only source of light unfortunately - or maybe fortunately, considering she hasn't seemed to notice how close his fingers linger next to hers.
Seohyun's mouth then forms the shape of an "oh", and he already knows what is coming.
"Don't worry about it though," He interjects nervously, counting the dying lights, "You were busy with, well, him."
A pause, "I'm sorry it didn't work out with you two."
He can already hear the awkward silence creeping in against the thud of his uneven heart beat, but his eyelashes flutter when he swears that her fingers graze against his.
"It's okay," She laments. "But I'm sorry too."
"Yeah? About what?"
"Everything, I guess. Not spending time with you, not being able to do this, even though I told you we would at least escape like this once a month," Seohyun's breathing hitches, he can hear it.
"I didn't replace you, Jinki. I didn't replace us with something (someone) else, I just .. I don't know."
And there is this dull, hollow ache that settles into the back of his rib cage in which there are words he wants to say, but doesn't.
"I know," Is his reply, fingers curling against blades of grass that crumble underneath his grip.
It was the worst possible thing ever, are the words that linger in his mouth.
"I'm still sorry," Seohyun reiterates, this time looking over to catch his gaze that is focused on the abyss.
He nods slowly, wondering if he'll simply lose her to another galaxy somewhere along the way again.
