An aca-fangirly weekend at MiT8

May 06, 2013 10:06

Hi all! So, another weekend, another conference. That's 3 for me in one month, but I'm finally done with them. Well, until I leave for NSTS in 10 days...but that's not really a conference.

ANYWAY! I went to MIT's Media in Transition conference this weekend, or at least for Friday and half of Saturday and I got to meet up with
cathexys and
ua_the_terrible and
lola and
jjhunter and
j_l_r and
stultiloquentia, who generously let me crash on her couch. It was fabulous (as always) to meet online friends in person, hang out, eat awesome food, and chatter at each other about academics and fandom and the intersection between the two. Conferences really are my preferred cons.

As is my wont, I tweeted the stuff I attended, and put together a storify for it here: http://storify.com/kouredios/my-mit8 I wasn't presenting (thank goodness, really, since I did present at the other two conferences this past month), but I made lots of new twitter friends via the backchannel, which is my new favorite way to spend a conference. I just wish more Lit. conferences had as active a backchannel as media studies and fan studies conferences do.

Even if you don't twitter, a storify is easy to follow. I even put things in chronological order going down!

Now to revise an article I'm cowriting, and revise a diss chapter before Italy. Oh, and finish all the grading. But since their final papers aren't due until tonight, that can probably wait...
