“GENDER, SEXUALITY AND POWER”
Dear Colleagues, we are glad to announce the launch of the multi-year ReSET Summer Schools for junior university faculty
“GENDER, SEXUALITY AND POWER”.
A principle objective of the project is to promote innovative undergraduate teaching in the region, and to develop cutting-edge courses on gender and sexuality based on strong social constructionist and critical vision of sex, sexuality, and gender; to launch the teaching of queer theory, feminist analysis of sexuality and other approaches, which interpret sexualities politically, through the prisms of proliferated power and inequalities.
The main sessions of the 3-year project will include the following topics:
1. Teaching Sexuality and Gender: from Theories to Everyday Life. The central task of this session will be to introduce and discuss fundamental ideas/theories/methodologies in the study of gender and sexuality, and to engage practical application of the theories in the comprehension of everyday life.
2. Sexuality, Gender and Power In Intersectional Perspective. This session will target intersectionality, including such categories as alternative ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender identity, and others within gender and sexual politics. During the session we consider the links between the construction of sexuality and inequalities, privileges, privacy, family, heteronormativity, and dominance.
3. Global/Local Discourses of Gender, Sexuality and Power. This session will concentrate on analysis of sexualities and power within different spatial and temporal localities (Soviet time periods, post-Soviet localities, and so on), and the dimensions of (post-) colonialism and globalization in sexual politics.
Project is funding by Regional Seminar for Excellence in Teaching (ReSET) Program of HESP/OSI, and hosted by Research Center for Visual Studies of National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Ukraine.

Participants Eligibility
participants must have current teaching affiliations with undergraduate degree programs in sociology, humanities, anthropology, gender/ women/ queer studies, feminist theory, and must teach (or intend to teach) courses relevant to project subject area;
participants, at minimum, must have a reading competence in English and demonstrate progress in developing English skills as the project continues;
participants must live and work in any New Independent States (12 former Soviet republics, excluding Baltic republics - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan). All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered to the elected participants from NIS;
interested young academics from the West and new EU member states of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe can be invited to participate in the projects if their major direct costs (such as travel, boarding, etc.) are covered from non-HESP funding sources;
grantees cannot be participants of any other ReSET Program at the same time.
Grantees are expected to participate in the project during whole 3-year period.
How to Apply
To apply for participation in the project candidates should provide the set of documents:
• Statement of Purpose. A brief description of the applicants' current teaching and researching interests and goals; how the theme of the project corresponds to their academic background and current professional activities; how they see the participation in the ReSET project enhance their
academic and professional development; how they can effectively contribute to the program; a list of books/articles read by the applicant on the subject of the project in the last year, familiarity with professional journals, networks, on-line resources, etc, to define the level of currency of the applicant within the scholarship on the topic; information about proficiency in English.
• Curriculum Vitae. Outlining academic and professional history for the period of at least the last 5 years; CV should include full list of publications with holding of relevant to the theme of the project.
• A Syllabus of an academic course developed or taught by the applicant on the subject of the project or/and short Essay or a Writing Sample on the theme of the project.
