For those of you to whom this would actually apply (and sound appealing)

i have recently received a bit of enlightenment. what kind of enlightenment, you ask? the kind that comes in a little bitty package but actually sounds cool enough to think about. why go back to school?! eventually, yes i will go to an accredited program of some sort, probably over evenings and such, but not right now. instead, i've put myself back to school. the School of Anthony officially opened sometime last week (on a tuesday as i recall). it's doors are open to any and all with a serious desire to keep their minds filling up with bits of knowledge throughout life. the program is highly rigorous with a mild understanding towards life sometimes intruding. the price is right; it only costs materials. and the faculty is incredibly versed and versatile in that they have no specialties other than learning. and there's neither a donna edleman, paul trible, nor any of the annoying freshman who can't seem to form a cogent thought beyond "beer pong is cool".

if you would like to enroll, here's what you do. purchase a notebook you can buy multiple copies of throughout life. label it volume one. leave a few pages in the front for a table of contents. number all of the pages in a style after your liking. grab a book (or other form of media) of some sort of eruditive value, the choice being entirely up to your personal faculty adviser (you may want to introduce yourself to yourself). read each chapter (at least one a day) and write down your interpretations, figure out what the author is saying or what you want him to say. support yourself as you see fit. fight him if he's uncooperative. reference historical information if you think it would help. then, grab another book of eruiditive value. read of it at least 30 minutes a day. just read. decide if you need to interpret it at length or not. if yes, repeat above. if not, grab another.

after you have a few books under your belt, get another notebook. something similar but perhaps a different color. label this Impressions Volume One. write your philosophy on life. leave a few pages in the front for a table of contents. number all of the pages in a style after your liking. write your philosophy on life. collect all the random scribbles of internet chatter, record the random thought songs of your mind, jot down the minutiae of daily ponderance of a life well lived. write the addresses of cool restaurants (this indian place on 103rd st and the 1 line is to die for, hop out of the metro station and look for it on one of the corners YUM!). note friendships triumphs and failures. perhaps 10-15 minutes a day.

in a few weeks buy yet another notebook of a different shade hue or style. label it Synthesis Volume One. combine the two preceding notebooks. leave a few pages in the front for a table of contents. number all of the pages in a style after your liking. reference your notes so you can easily track your thoughts later. contradict yourself. argue with yourself. hold discussions the likes of which have not been seen since socrates walked the earth. be brutal. be forceful. prove your points to your personal graduate adviser (you may want to introduce yourself to yourself). ask him to poke holes in your arguments. fight him at every step. take perhaps an hour every week.

you all know your curriculum now. so i expect to see everyone here next week with titles of works and number of chapters analyzed.
