Part One: Rosh Hashanah (New Year); September; Pregnancy Test
“Ben, what are the apples and honey for tonight?”
"New 'Ears!”
"And what do we call the new year?”
The three year old sat proudly on his knees leaning against the kitchen island, he knew this one, “Aw-sh ah-shhh-na-na-na.”
Dave Karofsky laughed, lightly ruffling his son's dark curls, “We'll have to work on that.”
The twenty-nine year old's attention was drawn across the hall as their house guest emerged from the bathroom. “Hey, buddy, why don't you go finish that card you were making for Grandpa so we can get ready to go, okay?”
Before his father could assist the daredevil of a toddler had already hopped off the chair and ran past Noah Puckerman in a flash. There were a few moments of silence as Dave watched his former high school teammate wipe his mouth before claiming the recently vacated stool.
“So...?”
Puck raised the familiar item up,“Don't know yet, still have a minute.” Dave simply nodded, finishing clearing the counter top of the mess. “How did you do it?”
“Do what?”
“Have Ben, with out any help?”
It was a slightly bitter scoff that came from the former hockey player as he leaned against the open refrigerator door, “I didn't have a choice, did I? Kind helps if you're sober enough to get their name and number before you find yourself in the doctor's office realizing the condom must have broke.”
Puck wasn't sure how to respond to that before he turned over the stick in his hand. The breath hitched in his throat. “Shit.” He threw the pregnancy test down on the counter before leaning back, arms crossed, to pout.
“Aww, come on Puckerman, my kid eats off that surface.” Dave grabbed a paper towel before picking up the discarded item. Blinking his eyes close for a moment, he tried to sound a little more sympathetic, “You going to tell him?”
“Why for? He's off on tour, never wanted kids anyhow. It'll just be easier if he doesn't know.”
Puck seems determined and if Dave had learned anything about the self-proclaimed badass in the five years sine their friendship had really kicked off, it was that once he made his decision it would take a lot to talk him out of it.
“Well, my couch is your bed as long as you want.”
Unsure of what else to say, Dave decided on a slight change of topic, so he held up the test stick, “You want to keep it?”
“What for, I'll have the kid in nine months and then that'll just be moot...”
Benjamin Karofsky chose that time to come out holding onto a corner of construction paper, letting flap behind him. "Aaaaaaawl done! Apple time, now?"
"Almost."
lmost."
Part 2: Channukah- December [Tantrums]
Somewhere along the way, Dave started throwing away the ads for open apartments, and when the couch became the enemy to Puck's back the two still just friends began to share the king sized bed in Dave's room. A brief conversation had decided that maybe Noah would just wait until after the baby was born, havesome one show him the ropes. They had fallen intoa comfortable arrangement by the time December arrives.
"Are we done yet?" The three year old practically throws himself against the store counter while Puck finishes paying for another pair of pants to accomidate his growing midsection.
"Yep," Taking the bag, ignoring the hired-only-for-the-holiday-employee wish him a Merry Christmas. "Now, we'll just meet your dad at the food court for lunch."
That plan was easier said than done as the closer they got to the mall's food court the closer they got to the mall's winter wonderland housing the Santa. The three year old held on to Puck's hand with eyes widening as they passed kid after kid carrying a little trinket of a toy. Then Ben saw it, the giant plastic reindeer, the ice sculptures and the man sitting with a line of kids waiting.
"I wanna go there."
Puck felt the tug on his arm before he realized it was Ben speaking. A slightht panic settled in his stomach, because he and Dave had already had this particular conversation. Dave's family was far more observant than his family ever had been, and if he had to hear one more time about how Grandma Karofsky had always sworn a Karofsky child would never go near the corrupting red suit Puck would gladly sacrifice his hearing.
"Come on, Benji, little man. Its time for lunch. We'll talk to your dad about." That seemed safe, put it Dave's court.
"But I want to go now." The little voice had suddenly gotten loud.
"Buddy," Puck tried whispering this time, "We don't do the whole Santa Claus thing. Remember, we're going to have our fun toni--"
"I DON WANNA. I WANN GO THERE."
The people around them have started to stare. Kids in line were looking on, and a couple of mother were tsking for whatever they assumed was going on. If Puck didn't feel pressure, he did then. He lets the boy throw himself on the ground, as he angrily answered his phone, "Yeah?"
"Please tell me that the screaming..."
"Is your son?"
Dave appears at the edge of the crowd moments later. "Benjamin, what's going on?"
"I wan sanda."
"Okay, fine."
Ben's yelling is hushed, both he are looking at the older Karofsky confused. Okay? FIne? What about Grandma Karofsky?
"Let me just call your friend, Jake, and tell him you don't want him to come over and light the candles....And I guess Noah's sister doesn't need to come over to make pancakes...."
"I wan pancakes..."
"Santa or Pancakes?"
Noah Puckerman watches in awe as the kid he once knew to explode at the drop of a hat stand there calmly neogotiating with a three year old. It makes him wonder he'd handle the situation, how he's going to handle the situation. It becomes a little more real for a moments.
"Both."
He caught the laugh in his throat, even managed to pass it off as a cough.
"One or the other."
Ben looks to him, and Puck looks to Dave, nodding, "The baby wants pancakes."
"Awrigh. Pancakes...."

A Year (And Ten Days) WIth Puck and Dave
Part 3, Purim, February Decorating
"Whew." Puck declared as he unlocked the door going in first to hold it open for Dave to carry a costume clad fast asleep Ben over the threshold, "That was some party." Dave could hear the sarcasm in the other man's voice. "Remind me how I got roped into to decorating this morning..."
"I had work." Dave replied, he face turned away from his roommate, "Hey before you sit...can you help me get into Benji's room?"
"Yeah, sure." Puck started to move down the hall slowly, trying to hide the waddle that had slowly become more pronounced. With a sigh he swung the door open before he turned to head back....
"And the light...please."
"Yes, sir." Puck mocked, "Anything else, sir? Do you want me to bow now or later..." The last 'sir' was cut off somewhere between the smug look on Dave's face and actually looking into the room. He had helped tuck Benji into bed a number of times, he had seen the dinosaur's and the clutter, toy-infested corner. Neither were there anymore. Instead of dinosaur's on the wall it was simply a solid green color, a light wood crib now sat were the toy chest had across from the toddler bed. A few bag of odd and end things sat in the crib below a star and moon mobile.
"So what do you think?" Dave asked as he laid his son down.
Puck blinked. "I thought...I mean, I though I was moving out after the baby was born..."
He almost missed the look of hurt flash across Dave's face, "Yeah...no, you're right. Of course. I....I was just...Ben's room needed a change anyhow. I just thought I'd get some of Ben's old things out just in case you wanted them..."
Dave's embarassment spurned Puck into quick action, taking a step forward he crashed his lips against the others effectively cutting off the speech.
"You know saying, 'Noah, please stay' would have been more effetive than having break your back putting all this togher..."
"True..."
"And have save me from dealing with the crazy moms trying to pat my stomach."
"But that was the fun part."
"Remind me how we got drafted into
hosting the Purim party?" Noah asked lazily chucking a streamer
across the room.
Dave smiled to himself at the drop of the
'we' as he leaned over to pick up roll off the floor. They were doing
anything crazy with the decorating: just pinning a couple of games to
the wall
Part Four - Passover - Ultrasounds
'Noah, I know it's been a while. But I'm back for a while. We should talk.'
Puck reread the message a number of times over until he couldn't any more. With the push of a couple of buttons the message had been deleted. Digging in his pockets he fishes out his keys to unlock the door. The door was barely opened when he froze to spy on the scene before him.
"How about under here? Do you see any bread under here?"
Dave was lifting the couch in the living room, which allowed for Ben to crawl underneath. Puck smiled as the now four year old pulled out a stale piece of bread he had kicked under there earlier to give the kid something to find.
"Who do think left that under there? Did you do it?"
"No." Ben laughed, "It was Noah."
"Oh, was it?"
"Uh-huh. Daddy?"
"Is Noah gonna stay?"
"Looks like it."
"If he stays, does taht mean the baby will be my brother or sister?"
Puck nervously waited until Dave spoke slowly, "Do you want a little brother or sister?"
"Yep. If I have a brother or a sister than I won' have to clean all the bread by myself."
The laugh that escaped out of his throat blew Puck's cover. "This place looks good." He looked to his boyfriend, "You ready?"
Dave nodded and soon Ben had been dropped off at the babysitters two floors down and they were on their way to doctor's office.
"I've changed my mind." Puck said when he was finally in front of the sonogram tech. "I want to know what I'm having...I mean I know I could just wait the last few weeks if its too late..."
"Nope. We can still..." She began to manuever the wand into place as Dave held his hand tightly.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. This is a patient as I can get."
There was a shared laugh between the three of them.
"Looks like its a boy. He's pretty proud of it too..."
"Ohh..." Puck muttered hoping he didn't sound disappointed.
She seemed to gloss over as though she didn't notice, "Boys are gentetically more likely in male pregnancies...We'll just get you cleaned up...any pictures?"
"Yeah." Dave spoke up, "If possible can we get a few extra...our folks are coming in town for Passover tomorrow."
"Sure thing."
She disappeared for a moment and Dave took the opportunity.
"Noah, you okay?"
"Yeah...'m fine...I was just hope...I mean I was just thinking....Its nothing...."
Puck was looking anywhere else in the room for a good while before it finally dawned on Dave, "You were hoping for a girl....because of Beth."
He remained silent so Dave spoke slowly, "You know when I was pregnant. I was kind of hoping for a girl, too...because I thought if I had a boy he'd turn out to be just like me...and lets face it I was exactly dream child at nearly any stage of development. But I love Ben...I know its not the same..."
Puck just shook his, "Still helps...Thanks." The rode on the stillness for a moment more, "You know he is going to be excited..."
Sure enough, they watched as Ben, as the one of only three kid at the Seder ran back proudly holding the found afikommen. He proudly handed it over to his father.
"I guess you want your reward for finding it now."
Puck spoke up, "I've got a special prize." He pulled out one of the sonogram pictures and hand it over with the small treat bag."
"What is it?"
"Its a pictures of the baby. ANd you know what that says?" Dave pointed to the type a the bottom. Clearly the youngster didn't and said so.
"It say 'its a boy.'"
"Really?
"Hey, Benji." Dave's older brother called across the table, "Remember what I told you that means."
The boy jimped in his suit, "Mean I'm the big brother, I make the rules!"

Part Five sabbath - Labor during sex
Puck sits in his chair willing himself to stay still, but he can't really find a comfortable position. He's not setting a good exapmple for Ben, who equally losing focusing as Dave began to light light the candles. It didn't happen every week, life tended to get in the way, still it was good to have a least this dinner before the baby arrived any day now.
He forced himself still as he ignored the buzzing in his pocket. In the two weeks since Passover he'd received a number of calls. Of course Kurt had finally reared his head again now that he was comfortable. When had found something he could get used to. What he had gotten comfortable with.
As their hands moved to the bread, he pushed it out of his mind, absently rubbing his ready-to-pop-belly for the rest of the night.
He returned to the master bedroom from his turn at tucking in Ben, massage his aching back to find Dave shirtless, towel wrapped around his waist. It didn't take a lot of thinking for Puck to strip off his own shirt and make his way to Dave.
"What...re you doing? Dave laughed lightly as he felt the tug at his towel. Puck's suddenly caught him a drink and Dave responded instantly, pushing Noah back towards the bed.
"Are you...sure?"
"Yes, yes....just Dave please." Noah's hands were alongside Dave's discarding the remaining pants only to have Noah buck quickly forward as Dave's hand made his way towards his boyfriend's hardening member.
"Shit." Noah's voice distracts Dave only momentarily. They both try again, but Noah voice interrupts again, "Shit. Shit. Shit. Fuck."

"Can I see the baby, yet?" Ben was pestering once agian.
Dave looked down the hallway and saw a familiar figure disappear into Noah's room. "In a minute or two."
A minute passed . then two. No emerged so Dave swallowed his fear and left his son in the care of Noah's mother. By all means it felt lie a walk on the plank, and he knew it would feel like this from the moment he snuck a peak a Noah's phone while the then pregnant man had been taking a shower. Deep breath. Carefully he peered into the door way.

Part Six - Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)
Noah Puckerman sat with his head resting on the against the back of the arm chair enjoying the moment of quiet before he heard the wail of his four month old son. The day Aaron was born...
~"He's amazing." Noah looks over to where Dave is staring at the new born as though he'd never seen an infant before.
"Yeah." Noah muttered tiredly, "He's somthing." A yawn took over.
Dave smiled timidly, "I remember that. You should rest. I'm going to go check on Ben."
Noah nodded weakly, sleep slowly taking over.
When he blinked against the light seeping through the window, finally waking up again, it took him a few moments to adjust to the room. Immediately his eyes went to where his son was suppossed to be sleeping. Instead the infant was being held.
"What are you doing here?"
Kurt adjust the newborn boy to the other shoulder. "Visiting my son, obviously."
"How?"
"Dave called."~
"Shh...Shh." Noah tuttered as Aaron finished off the last of the bottle as the sound of the apartment's front door opening sounded.
"We're home."
Puck looked up as the four year old came into the door way. Smiling he held a finger against his lips, "Shh."
"Shh." Ben repeated the gesture as Noah gently burped his son. "How was school?"
Instantly the preschooler launced into a detail way too long account of the day that had been until Dave appeared in the room. "Dinner's ready."
Yes, they were still together. Yes, Kurt checked in, but as he and Noah had once discussed fatherhood had yet to find its fit into his life, and even if there had been a choice, yes, after the last year Noah would have always picked Dave Karofsky.
But that didn't stop them from being stubborn. That didn't stop them from spending the last four months feeling a little off. Dave still felt like the consolation, Puck still blamed for Dave for calling Kurt. Though a dare devil of a four year old, and growing infant worked as a distraction for the most part. Still it was wearing Noah down a bit.
He sighed as he walked in from tucking the boys to find Dave putting their recently recieved Rosh Hashanah cards from their parents into a box on top of the chest of drawers.
"Dave?"
"Hmm-mmm."
"Forgive me."
"What?" Dave turned to look him in the eye.
"For the day Aaron was born."
~"Is the part were you shout at me that he's your son to and demand to know him?" Noah asked.
Kurt shook his head laying the little boy down, "No, we've already had this conversation." The actor came closer, "You're better off without me...both of you."
Kurt leaned down, cupping Noah's faace in his hand. One last, Noah thought, probably wasn't going to turn out good. Sure enough, he turned his head before Kurt's lips landed on his forehead to see Dave standing in the doorway of the hospital room.~
"W-what?" Dave stuttered.
"We didn't kiss."
"I know."
"Things have just felt...off and I thought it was because..." Noah tried to explain.
"No. I forgave you.I forgive you. I waas trying to give you some space to think. You did just have a kid. What about you? For calling Kurt. Forgiven?"
"Forgiven."
