The first time I entered the northern terminus of I-85, I thought it was humorous that the two cities of note were Durham and Atlanta, neither of which was particularly close and the latter being especially un-close. I've come to see more interesting things during my time driving the interstate, but that entrance sign for I-85 was the most unique ( Read more... )

Aside from crossing the mountains in west virginia, I-70W is the MOST BORING ROAD EVER. We drove it going to Cincinnati and lemme tell you. BOR-ING.
Once you pass Columbus theres nothing but grass for like a gazillion miles >

I think the point they are making is that it goes really far and that it ends in Utah. There are those who like to start at the beginning of a road (Baltimore for I-70, Ocean City, MD for Route 50) and for those people, the transportation department puts up those signs. There exists a sign near San Francisco at the end of the Bay Bridge indicating how many miles it is to the George Washington Bridge, those being the two ends of I-80.
