Miles and miles of miles and miles.
The first time I entered the northern terminus of I-85, I thought it was humorous that the two cities of note were Durham and Atlanta, neither of which was particularly close and the latter being especially un-close. I've come to see more interesting things during my time driving the interstate, but that entrance sign for I-85 was the most unique thing I'd seen with regards to control cities...until recently.
If one leaves Baltimore by way of I-70 heading west and crosses the I-695 orbital, one will soon see a highway city mileage sign with the following cities on it: Columbus (OH), St. Louis (MO), Denver (CO), and Cove Fort (UT). I had to look that last one up. Apparently, these are the cities that matter.
