Parenting shortcuts
My new realization: bully stix are to puppy parenting as Disney videos are to child parenting. Every now and then, when we don't want her in her crate, but need her to just be calm and stay in one place for a little while, we give Butter a bully stick. We feel a little guilty about it. Not that there's anything bad about bully stix, and goodness knows, she loves them. But it's kind of like popping "The Little Mermaid" into the VCR as a way of ensuring some quiet time, when perhaps it would be better to do some quiet learning or interaction instead. Sometimes, though, you just gotta do it. And Butter probably appreciates the break -- we've been throwing a lot of stuff at her this past week. Or at least, that's what I'm gonna tell myself.
