Last Wednesday night I met Jill and Dave at the Manchester Airport to begin the extended weekend of pre-wedding maid of honor duties by checking out a bunch of wedding stuff with them in Hew Hampshire. Jill went over all the details in her post, so I'll just list some things that stood out in my mind about the trip.
We stayed at Dave's parent's house in Exeter. It's an old brick house that is really huge and really cool. They have a really woodsy, nicely landscaped backyard that is really cool, but full of bugs. Actually, it's one of the choices for the place to have the reception, but I think Jill is veering away from that, and towards the Exeter Inn or the Abenaqui Country Club (Or as the locals say it, "ABERNAKI." Crazy New Hamsha accents :) )
Dave's parents have this little pug named Coco. She's old as hell (10) and she's handicapped. She can't move her back legs well because of a spinal issue, so she slips and falls on any floor that is not carpeted. She totally needs a little motorized scooter for her ass. That would be both awesome and hilarious at the same time. Anyway, they have all these long carpets around the house that form a little path for Coco to walk on. They are the 'pug rugs." haha---pug rugs. As Dave knows, Coco has an issue with doing her do-do, or dooty, or doots, in the house. I saw her crap approximately 3 times. It was funny. (I can't stop laughing as I am typing this.. HA!) Then, when she gets taken outside to go, because she can't walk well, she gets a scarf put under her lower belly, like a sling, so she can walk mostly on her front paws and have her ass carried. Also funny. Poor Coco. Doots. :)
Dave's parents made us lobsters! Nummy! We all wore plastic bibs, and I got the misfit bib that just had a plain lobster picture on it. Everyone else had a picture of a lobster chilaxin' on its back in a boat with its claws behind its head.
The next night Jill, me, Dave, and Dave's friend, Nate, all went to Portsmouth to hang out. We had some beers and food (chowda!) at a cool pub called "Molly Malone's," where I also went to find the bathroom after Jill did, tried to open the door a few times before realizing it was a single, which led to Jill yelling a pissy, "HANG ON!" Then she laughed when she found out it was me that was trying to get in. haha! oopsie!
We went to a few other bars and ended at this little trailor (literally) that was a hotdog and burger joint. I think it was called Gilly's or something. It was really cheap and I got an excellent hot dog and some chili cheese fries.
The next day we went to the Lindt chocolate factory and loaded up on chocolates! I got $30 worth of chocolate-- that place is trouble! We were back in plenty of time for the engagement party at Dave's parents' house. It wasn't all that exciting. A LOT of booze (mostly drank by the older folks which led to Dave's mom saying, "Can someone please put me out of my misery?" the next morning), and a lot of good food. It was funny because all of us 'kids' were pretty sober and just talking, and the older people were all hammered and loud. Freaking hilarious.
The next day, after having lunch at the Abenaqui Country Club (Arnold Palmer and a Turkey Wrap) to check out the reception facilities, Jill, Dave and I went to the Jewell Towne Vineyard to do a little wine tasting. We got slightly lost on the way there, and Jill was unpleased to say the least. :) We found it eventually, and the wine was really good. I would've took a bottle back with me, but I didn't want to check my bag. Stupid 3 oz rule!
That was about all the excitement of New Hampshire. I got back in DC Monday aftenoon and went into work for about 4 hours. This whole week has been pretty much a blur since I was rushing around trying to get back on my running schedule and work extra hours I missed from going on the trip. I miss Jillies!
