Most hated men: Trump vs. Godfrey

Feb 09, 2017 00:14

Two days down, so much more to go.

So far, it's OK. I jokingly told P. earlier if I wasn't back in 30 mins he should come check on me cuz I may be dead from boredom. But the 27 mins (21 minutes on the regimen and five minutes warm-up) went by fairly quickly, thanks to Rachel Maddow.

I will try to do at least one more, maybe two, this week. I may need to visualize a recent photo of my fat self from this last Christmas -- whatever motivates me to get off my couch potato butt works.

There's more outrageous ridiculousness from Trump today. The one that made me laugh out loud, however, were his remarks defending his travel ban. He said he didn't understand the criticism about the travel ban, which he said was "written beautifully." He also said the law was clearly in his favour and that even someone who is not a lawyer, or was a bad student at high school, would understand this. Then he offered this priceless gem:

"I was a good student. I understand things. I comprehend very well, OK? Better than, I think, almost anybody."

Classic Trump.

Equally disgusting is Paul Godfrey. He gave an interview to Toronto Life, published yesterday. The reporter asked some very good, pointed questions, including how he explains receiving a $900,000 retention bonus when many of his employees were getting buyouts, laid off, or denied cost-of-living wage increases.

"No one asked," said Godfrey -- a lie because many, including the union, is already asking him and his cronies to return the retention bonuses. He said only one company, Chatham Asset Management, stepped forward to invest in the company (which I think may be a lie too because I read there was another media company who was willing to buy the company) and that it wanted assurances that key execs, like him, stayed before they handed in the money. So he did. "Did I feel awkward about the bonus? Yes. But how would staff feel if we shut down and there were no severance deals at all?"

The next question was about how, in the midst of cuts and layoffs, at what point is Godfrey "diminishing the print product so much that you're hastening its decline?" This is his answer: "It hasn't happened yet. Are our papers are good as they used to be? No, but they haven't become unacceptable."

Wow.

There's our new tagline: The Province: Not Unacceptable Yet.
