A beautiful fall day

It's such a gorgeous day today!! Look, snapped from the balcony:

I took the day off to spend time with C. and J. and the kids, but they turned out to be in Victoria and the new Tsawwassen Mills outlet mall today. But all good. I'm still trying to get rid of that sore throat and cough, so lots of rest at home + copious amounts of lemon grass green tea. Then, I went for a quick walk around the neighbourhood to get some fresh air and enjoy the sunshine. I love this 'hood. I'll be very sad when we have to leave for Mount Pleasant.

I've been thinking of doing an Instagram challenge. 30 days of pics around downtown Vancouver. Maybe tie it in to 30 walks? So 30 pics from 30 walks. It can be a personal challenge to go on one walk a day, rain or shine + capture some images of downtown before I have to leave it + another move towards embracing social media. Hmm. What do you think?

Anyway, see that sliver of a view of the marina in the photo? That's gonna be gone soon, if this development application for 1255 W. Pender gets approved. It's for a 19-storey mixed-use bldg with 20 residential units and retail units on the ground floor. It's a small lot, squished between the Arthur Erickson-designed Evergreen building and a condo tower. I've seen the proposed plan: it's quite nice and well-designed, really blends in well with the Evergreen. I don't like it because it means my gorgeous sliver of a view will be no more. I know that's rather NIMBY, which is why I'm keeping my displeasure to myself and not sharing it with city hall as part of its consultation process. I've heard and written about too many people who object to this project or that project because it blocks their view, sunlight, etc. I see their point of view, but it's NIMBYism of the first degree. Never mind the building you're in blocks someone else's view, heaven forbid your view gets blocked by a newer building.
