So in case you haven't already heard,
juushinkan and I are getting a puppy.
No her name will not be Whitney. Right now we're settling on a variety of names. (Kimiko or Kimi seems to be winning so far.) We'll be getting her from
this organization in... some weeks from now. It's undetermined. Less than a month though!
I've been busy going out of my goddamn mind because OMFG PUPPY. I've begun nesting. There are toys bought, food and treats bought, new-puppy parent magazines that tell me how to reduce my puppy's carbon pawprint...
I've lost my damn mind, pretty much. I keep considering throwing a puppy shower, but no one here would want to go to it. I need to make some better friends is what needs to happen here.
Juu is more sedate than I, as usual, but she's still excited about it. I'm pretty sure that's what it means when she comes back from the farmer's market with grassfed beef liver and bakes it over the course of two days to make tiny liver treats for an animal we don't even have yet. I love my waifu.
The cats, however, are not going to love my waifu. For weeks, at least. As a reminder, there are currently 4 cats in this house, 3 of which are Juu's, and now 4 budgies... 3 of which are hers. Ours. The lines are getting blurred over here. Nonetheless, the youngest of the cats by far is Aiden, and he's still a few years old. So we've got cranky old cats, and a 3 year old cat who is on psych medication for his paranoia and anxiety. And we're getting a puppy. Fuck.
BUT! This puppy is adorable. She's a "potcake" or "Royal Bahamian Potcake" which really just means "mutt from the Bahamian Islands" but it's a wild-type dog. A lot of these are strays that have been rounded up (hence all the puppies).
Why didn't I adopt locally? Well I tried. Juu searched craigslist and we both searched petfinder, and we went down to one of the shelters... but while there were cute dogs there, they all tended to be mixes with german shepard, lab, hound... everything that grows up to be either gigantic or ugly. We tried adopting a pair of sisters who were just... adorable and beautiful and perfect, but the rescue in question decided that we weren't qualified. So we kept looking, and then there's that puppy up there and after a couple days thinking about it, I agreed with Juu that she was the one we wanted.
I mean look at that face. That coloration. Them gangly legs that only gonna get ganglier. <3
So that's what I've been up to. Getting ready for a puppy. Well, that and gardening like a boss, but the gardening isn't as interesting as a puppy, so there we are.
