Zetsu always loved proving people wrong, discouraging them, or anything that would damage their pride. He supposes this is the same as all of those other times, just a tad more risky. His five years of acute ninja training could all be flushed away as soon as Hayate opens the cardboard box he is carrying, containing a small opium plant in its early stages of growth.

It’s cold out, the plant needs the comfort of a warm dormitory. The transaction needs to be made fast so they will seem less suspicious to anyone spying on them and so the plant won’t whither. Zetsu shuffles faster through the snow, agreeing with himself that his genjutsu to hide his foliage is ingenious. It makes looking over his shoulders and being paranoid so much easier.

He spots Hayate just in front of the Gama house, looking restless and impatient. Zetsu shoves the box toward him. “I’m -trusting-,” he strains ‘trusting’ because this how he got stuck in this situation in the first place (it better be worth it!), “you with this. If it dies while you’re looking after it, I’m going to draw and quarter you.” He whispers in a crisp, rude tone with an awful expression accompanying it.
