without you i'm just me

Dec 11, 2008 07:57

i don't know why i'm having such a hard time writing this post, but i can tell if i just don't force myself and do it, it will wind up yet another post not posted like far too many others. so here goes...

i went to the 'without you i'm just me' art opening last tuesday night, featuring artwork by pete wentz & travie mccoy. it was fun! when wovenindelibly and i walked in, pete and travie were sitting at a table signing programs, so we walked around and checked out the artwork. and then john mayer walked in. HI JOHN MAYER UR PRETTY. then the three of them disappeared into the back room for a while.

there were surprisingly few people there when we first arrived, but it definitely picked up as the night went on.

we never saw john mayer again, but the other two came back out for signing, pictures, chatting, whatever. travie especially was very social and available and making the best faces. <3 travie. and holy shit is that boy TALL.

we lingered politiely for a long time, not wanting to interupt anyone else's 'moment', but ugh, it just doesn't really work that way. there's always someone waiting in the wings to take their attention next, right? but i continued to wait patiently. and then finally travie looks right at me and smiles and fucking WAVES at me. so... I WAVE BACK. /o\ and this is clearly my moment, take it or leave it, krit. so i quickly walk up to him, say hi, and ask if he'd mind signing my program. it's all very quick, his attention is in high demand.

AND THAT'S ALL I WROTE. FAIL. NOW IT'S JUNE 2009 AND I'M GOING TO FINISH THIS FUCKER.

aaaaauuugh, and i've just deleted another paragraph. i keep starting over and starting over but it's just not coming out right. apparently there's a reason this was never written. LET'S JUST GET TO THE PICTURES AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS OKAY? OKAY!

lulzy blurry photos in typical krit fashion.

for the most part the boys were walking around the space, mingling, taking photos with fans, etc, but they stopped for a bit over by the wall to pose for some press photos.

two minutes prior to this, i had finally caught pete's attention toward the back of the room (he was actually rather elusive that night, hanging out in the back room behind a closed door or wrapped up in doing 'art' while he was on the floor), and grabbed my chance figuring another one wouldn't present itself. i asked him if he wouldn't mind signing my program if he had a quick second. he smiled at me and said 'you'll be the first one. let's just go back to the tables.' (the tables were right in front of that bat-heart wall up there.) so i turned around and walked toward the tables, with pete directly behind me, his hands on my waist or shoulder (i can't remember exactly, but i remember thinking holy shit he's right behind me and touching me!)

anyhow, we got back to where the 'tables' were to find them gone, the press ready to shoot, and my request quickly forgotten. oh well, no worries, i can wait.

earlier that evening we got to watch pete write this on the wall:

he did that a lot that evening. would just stop with a marker and ~create some ~art.

i think travie did some, too, though i don't recall seeing him do it. this one might have been his, idk.

so after the press was done with them, pete ran off and plopped himself down in front of prime piece of wall and went to fucking town. for like, THIRTY MINUTES. which sounds kind of awesome? but actually gets a leeetle bit boring. and sure, we could have left - considered it, even - but i wanted my damn signature damn it! i had spent money! he promised! I WAS ON A MISSION (and lolll i don't even really care about signatures, but for whatever reason that night i was DETERMINED).

i was also sort of determined to get a good shot of his hoodie. petenut butter! ♥

so yeah, we stood and watched and i'd occasionally take another picture hoping to get that One Great Shot (there were mostly misses, as per usual).

but then huzzah!! \o/ THE HOODIE *AND* PETE'S TEENY TINY ASS IN STRIPES. ahahaaha favorite omg.

so anyhow, after he finishes doing his thang, we eventually come face to face and he smiles and says, 'DID YOU EVER GET THAT SIGNED LOLLLL' (i paraphrase only slightly). i laugh back and say 'no (duh), you've been a little busy, and they packed up the tables.' OKAY, SO. the tables? were like those folding kind? and idk, this seems like a normal phrase to me that one would PACK UP THE TABLES and move them out, but he looked at me like i told him MONKEYS ARE EATING NACHOS ON THE MOON and said, 'packed up the tables???' TO WHICH I SAID 'YEAH. *confused face* they packed them up? they're gone now?' meanwhile he's all *sign sign*, we exchanged a few other pleasantries, took a quick photo, and that was it. mission, or whatever, accomplished.

and so we left, mostly smiling at the ODDITY of the evening. it was a strange night all around, i think. but fun! definitely fun.

and so, right. i didn't mention the art at all. whoops! um, it was nifty? :D no really, they had some interesting stuff. it wasn't necessarily the type of art i'm most drawn to, and i certainly liked some pieces more than others, but still. those kids got some talent! (hell, i even slapped my credit card down for one of them. i mentioned it being an odd night, right?? /o\).

you can check out their stuff here: Without You I'm Just Me artwork

aaaaand, that's all there is to say, really. for the most part. yis. ;)

blurrific, events, pwentz
