The Mini Unemployment Journey

Oct 29, 2018 22:43

Initially I was quite open to going back to my previous company, but my ex-superior told me that her boss is unsure as there's no vacancy for an extra person in my ex-department. (Lesson here: people may be well-meaning, but sometimes we have to be cautious to accept what they say at face value because they may not be able to fulfil it.)

So I reflected and thought (and re-thought) a lot... Browsed through a job recruitment website and saw nothing of interest/fitted my qualifications. Thought of getting a degree in English but it would take about 4 years and a lot of money. The time was especially valuable for someone my age, so dropped that idea and looked at what I could do with what I have instead. Sent my resume to a design college to be a Graphic Design lecturer. No reply after they forwarded to the Academic side, then applied at an international secondary school as an Art teacher. Was shortlisted for the interview, and I went. I think the interview went well, but when they scheduled me for a mock teaching lesson, that was when it hit me that if I was accepted, I'd have to go through what I went through again... and realised I'm not, at the moment, ready to take it on.

It was coincidentally (I don't know why all these coincidences keep on happening...) when I got called in for interview that my ex-superior told me she persuaded her boss to take me in. Also because two other staffs from my dept were resigning soon. After the interview with the secondary school, I said I'd be going in.

Before I settled with my previous company, despite the circumstances (not having a job, not knowing where to head towards), somehow I felt at peace and wasn't anxious at all. Was quite surprising because I'm quite sure that my younger self would have been scurrying to research and etc.

Story doesn't end there though. My superior asked me what was my last-drawn salary and how much I'd like to increase. I just gave her my previous salary plus the increment I lost when I went to teach, but she said she'd top it up for me. When it was approved that I'd be going in, the salary is more than I expected... and I'd be joining in a position that's one step higher from my previous. So it was basically a salary raise and a promotion...

After everything I was speechless... because the whole story was not just of things working out for me, but of God's love, peace, grace, and favour. So was really grateful for everything He did and planned. :')
