WTF?

We got an offer in the mail today to sign ari up to receive a set up "Weird n Wild Creatures" cards (complete with handsome cardboard carrying case) put out by Ranger Rick magazine (you know, the one with the cute raccoon?) They sent along several sample cards so we could see how great they are. Each one features a terrifying illustration of an animal baring teeth, ready to pounce. They fall into categories such as "Nightmares of Nature," "Monsters of the Past," and, because they were running out of real scary animals, "Monsters of the Mind." They are covered with fascinating, preschooler-friendly tidbits of info like:

"The saltwater croc has probably eaten more people than any other wild animal. Estimates are it devours more than 1000 humans each year." (next to a photo of a croc busy swallowing a wild boar)

"The wolverine's teeth tear viciously into prey. The long, sharp canines in front rip open the victim. The interior teeth chomp down and shatter bone."

"Great whites rarely eat humans. These sharks often take one bite and move on. This may be because humans don't have the thick layer of tasty fat that covers their favorite prey, such as seals. Still, just one bite can tear a human into two pieces..."

"Filled with cutting teeth and encrusted with the flesh of the wyvern's prey, the jaws emit clouds of repulsive, sulphurous fumes, which mingle with the decaying stench of rotting flesh."

uhh--who's idea was this?!
