Finally school is done for the year.. and I get to catch up on all that's happened in the Kpop scene. I shall just rant about 3 issues:
1. Jonghyun dating
2. TVXQ Lawsuit
3. JYJ at MAMA 2009
Firstly, Jonghyun's dating matter.. just cause it's the least complicated. Really..I don't see what's the big hooha about jjong dating. As a star, there's nothing wrong with them dating (unless they're Taeyang, then that's a whole different matter altogether) I think so long as jjong doesn't make a habit of dating and breaking, there's nothing wrong with him experiencing love. Of course, that's not to say that he shouldn't have not known the fact that debuting also meant he was accountable to the fans, but that also doesn't mean that fans should deprive their idols of personal lives too (se7en is really one lucky dude though..even though the way exposing wasn't the best around, but his fans are so accepting ^^)
There's also the rumor that members are unhappy about that (I don't know how true is that, just heard from a friend) but while I think the members should be more understanding, but their worries are not unfound. With the Kpop scene in an uproar from all kinds of controversies, scandals, lawsuits, and what not, now is really not the time for them to be part of the mess too. In fact, now is the time for them to break away from all that and rise up against the rest.
Secondly, there's that whole thing about TVXQ lawsuit. These are insights that I got from a Japan news channel that solved the biggest question that I could not answer about the entire lawsuit --- why if they were going to sue SM, why 3 and not 5? The reason was quite possibly because of the strict upbringing in Korea and their Confucian teachings, that placed the respect for parents in high importance. As we all know, Korea is highly conservative on family values, a lot more so than the Westerns, Chinese and even Japanese. So it's no wonder if the parents had objected to HoMin taking part in the lawsuit that they had no choice but to stay back.
And on this matter, I think many Cassies might have very likely at some point had wished that there was no lawsuit in the first place, but to me I do not think that. While I fervently hope that TVXQ will come together as 5 again someday, hopefully soon, I would rather they have fought for their own rights then having them suffer in silence under the harsh conditions of the contract. Also some may think why now, when they are at the peak of their career? But I think it's precisely that that pushes them to their breaking point of their tolerance, because it is at the peak that they are pushed the hardest, for SM to make the most out of their glory now. I think SM is being too money-minded. Of course all companies would want to make profits, but pushing their artistes this hard is just harsh. Who would make 13 year contracts? In Japan the average contracts span is 3-5 years, after which they are renewed again. SM should take a leaf out of YG's book. There's a reason why YG artistes are always so happy with staying with YG, and why they are never and never look overworked.
While I hope that they would come back together one day, one should also consider the worst too. But no matter what, I believe that TVXQ have already gone down in history as one of the biggest and most successful Asian artiste of this century and this legacy will not be easily broken or forgotten. To this, Cassies should have faith too.
Lastly, there is the SM protest of having JYJ at MAMA 2009 and receiving the awards on behalf of TVXQ. To this, I think SM only has himself to blame. He boycotted the event, such that HoMin could not have attended to receive the awards, to which left JYJ who agreed to turn up to receive them. It is just ridiculous if they had turned up and not been allowed to receive the awards. After all, they turned up not as JYJ, the separated part of TVXQ, but as members of TVXQ. That makes a whole lot of difference. They received the awards as a recognition to all the efforts that they have put in through the years, and not simply for their own personal glory. And what is most important is that even though they were up on stage as 3, they did not forget the other 2 and still acknowledged all the hard work that they have put in together, as Dong Bang Shin Ki.
These are just how I feel about these events. If anyone has something to say, you're welcomed to comment to this entry.
