fic prompt for aki :D

haha, I'm finally filling those fanfiction prompts you guys issued for me in February :) First up, we have...

Fandom: Ghost Hunt
Pairing: Lin/Mai
Prompt: Need
Prompter: akinarei
Warnings: implications of sex, general overload of fluff, the works :)

They have their quiet moments.

The times when Mai makes tea and brings it to Lin in his office while he works, the lunch breaks they take together (at first, they make some effort to hide the fact that they leave hand in hand, but lately it’s become excruciatingly clear to them that all of the other members of their team know), the times when she wakes sobbing from one of her strange dreams/trances/visions (they’re getting stronger as she gets older, and in a way that scares her, but he tells her it only means she’s stronger than they thought) and Lin is there to hold her hand and rock her gently in his arms until she can master the flood of feeling and fear, subsiding into quiet comfort as he strokes her hair.

They have their more passionate encounters as well. The afternoon that Naru leaves to go and buy some sort of book and they find themselves alone in the office, and before they really understand what they’re doing, they find themselves in a rather compromising position in Lin’s office, Mai on his desk, her legs wrapped around his waist, his shirt half unbuttoned and his hands all over her (thankfully, they come to their senses before Takigawa storms into the outer room muttering about something or other and if he notices that Lin’s shirt buttons are askew and that Mai is looking rather flushed, he keeps it to himself) or the time they are alone in the van after a particularly grueling case and suddenly that backseat looks far more appealing than it ever had before (Lin will forever chronicle this as one of his most embarrassing moments, not least because it had to be Naru that finds them and makes a rather scathing comment concerning which one of them was the teenager here) or any of their clandestine make-out sessions, really.

Of all the times, though, that this  could have happened, Mai was happy in her knowledge that it had happened now.

They had gone dancing, the two of them, just the two of them, Mai wearing the same semi-formal gown they had purchased for her when Naru had needed her to act as bait at a high school prom, Lin in his usual black, and had a nice dinner, and Lin hadn’t taken wine because he still had to drive her home and then once there, Mai had realized that she didn’t want him to leave, and that was all he really needed.

There had been wine later, Mai thought, but not enough to leave them both staggering. They were just slow, the two of them, sipping from their glasses, exchanging kisses in between, slow, slow, slow and oh-so-gentle, Lin’s lips and tongue working expertly over her neck, his hands gently kneading her breasts, making her gasp before he came back up to cover her lips with his. Her hands, tracing over his naked back and chest, feeling muscle and scar tissue and skin, and it was too hot, too hot in her apartment that she could barely keep warm in the winter. I’ll really have to have a word with the landlady, she thought, somewhat ridiculously, just before Lin’s hands slipped lower and she was lost.

After that, everything was hazy. Undefined. No way to tell where one body ended and another began. Winding higher and higher, tighter and tighter… The two of them on the couch, on her bed, and Lin’s eyes, so dark and running deep with some strange emotion Mai couldn’t name, and then she didn’t care, because she was flying.

Which led them back here, to this bed, to these sheets wrapped around their bodies, to Mai waking up in Lin’s embrace, with her head resting on his shoulder, his soft hair spilling over one side of his face against her hand.

He opens his eyes to her touch, and smiles-- not the wry twist of his mouth that she is used to, but a real, full, soft smile. It makes him look younger and somehow vulnerable. “Good morning,” he says, kissing her palm.

She smiles back and snuggles closer, her hands coming up to cup his face. She kisses him, gently, and he draws lazy circles over her back with one finger, and she’s never known anything quite like this.

And later, she, the-girl-who-has-no-one, will admit that what they have is extraordinary, and that she wouldn’t trade it for the world.

She needs this.
